The night stretched its gray and black corner to the distant horizon.

The lights in the teaching building of Hexian Middle School were lit up one after another.  Groups of students walked back and forth between the teaching building and the cafeteria, or walked toward the school gate carrying schoolbags.  The school is located in the suburbs, with the back entrance facing the hills and vegetable fields. There is only a circular one-way lane in front of the main entrance for parents to pick up and drop off students.  There are no restaurants outside the school. You have to walk down a more than 400-meter-long ramp against the one-way street to reach the bus stop closest to the school. Therefore, most students choose to have their meals in the on-campus cafeteria.

Liu Lei followed the traffic flow uphill.

One side of the road is being repaired, so vehicles returning to the city have to go around this one-way street.  It happened to be the rush hour after get off work, and the bypassing traffic was jammed with vehicles picking up and dropping off children in front of the school. The horns were blaring, and there was no traffic for a long time.  He walked along the green belt, looking around for the cars blocking the one-way lane. His eyes scanned their license plates one by one, but he couldn't find any familiar license plate numbers.

The school is only five minutes¡¯ walk from the Children¡¯s Psychological Rehabilitation Center.  When Liu Lei received Zhao Xishan, Qin Yan had not yet gotten off work.  She sent them to the door of the yard, took one last look at the brother and sister, and still felt uneasy: "You really don't need me to send them off?"

"It's really not necessary. My dad drove here. There was a road construction in front of him and it hit the rush hour, so the road was blocked." Liu Lei held Zhao Xishan's hand with one hand and pulled the schoolbag strap on his shoulder with the other, smiling politely.  Shyly, "I'll just take Shanshan to the intersection. Thank you, Aunt Qin."

Looking up at the long queue of cars on the roadside, Qin Yan put her hands in the pockets of her white coat, frowned slightly and sighed softly, her eyes falling back into his eyes, "Then I'll see your dad later.  Remember to call or text me back.¡±

Liu Lei nodded, "Okay, got it."

She nodded in response and looked at Zhao Xishan aside.  The little girl was holding her brother's hand with her left hand, and still clutching the puppet in the green skirt with her right hand. Her thin face was numb, except for her brown pair of eyes that were staring at her blankly, with her eyes still a little red.  Smoothing down her clothes and squatting down, Qin Yan bent down and looked into the little girl's big eyes, and told her in a low voice: "Shanshan, aunt is going to see another little sister, so I won't see you off today. You go back with your brother, there are a lot of things to do on the way.  Pay attention to the car, okay?"

The dull expression on her face did not change. The little girl stared into her eyes and nodded slowly.

Twitching the corner of her mouth and giving her a smile, Qin Yan touched her little head and said, "Dad is busy at work. If Shanshan feels unhappy and wants to tell her, just write and tell her. We tried it today. Do you still remember it?"  ?"

The little girl thought for a while and nodded again.

It seems that there is no improvement at all, and still does not speak.

Liu Lei, who was holding her little hand, sighed secretly, but saw that Qin Yan didn't show any signs of frustration. He smiled and kissed the little girl's cheek, and encouraged her softly: "It's great to be kind. Auntie knows that you are the bravest.  He¡¯s a good kid.¡±

Zhao Xishan moved his little head, slowly stretched out a thin arm to wrap around her neck, and kissed her ear.

Liu Lei was stunned for a moment and said nothing.

On the way downhill, he took the little girl to take a path inside the green belt to avoid the dust from the traffic.

"Silent all the way, Zhao Xishan followed Liu Lei quietly with his head lowered, his eyes following his toes bit by bit.  The streetlights stretched their shadows, sometimes lengthening and sometimes shortening.  He glanced at her from the corner of his eye from time to time, and could only see the curls of hair on her head.  After thinking about it, Liu Lei glanced at the doll held in the little girl's other hand, smiled carefully and said, "Shanshan, that doll was given to you by Aunt Qin?"

She did not raise her head, but only slightly retracted her chin.

Seeing her reaction, he couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

"Shanshan, do you like this kind of doll?"

The little girl stared at the leather shoes on her feet and nodded her head silently again.

"Then I'll clip it for you next time. Have you ever seen a doll machine? It's a big, coin-operated doll machine in a shopping mall." Liu Lei laughed, and his tone was a little lighter unconsciously, "Every time I  I can catch it every time.¡±

But at this moment, another voice suddenly came from behind: "Student!"

His footsteps froze in place, the smile on Liu Lei's lips froze, and his mind went blank.

He felt that Zhao Xishan also stopped and turned his head to look behind him.  A hand put on his arm, and with the smell of tobacco coming to his nostrils, he slowly passed by him.

"What a coincidence, are you taking this road?" The person turned around and stood in front of him, with his schoolbag slung across his body and extinguished the cigarette in his hand.?It should have nothing to do with her.  "Having expected that she would say this, Cheng Ou frowned and looked at her, "So why did my sister-in-law come all the way to find such a person who has nothing to do with me?  "

Hu Jiaying's thin back appeared in his mind, and then the scene of Shen Qiuping holding her son and turning back quickly flashed across her mind.  Xu Zhen closed her eyes and pressed her painful temples.

¡°We will know when the time comes to rescue Shen Qiuping.¡± She said.

She knew that their arrival was an opportunity for Shen Qiuping.  An opportunity she was willing to sacrifice her body for.

It¡¯s slim, but it¡¯s almost the last straw.

So no matter what, they can't just sit back and watch.
