At the end of January 2008, a rare heavy snowfall hit the south, and frost froze most of the Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway.  Car accidents occurred frequently and the power grid was paralyzed. Countless people who rushed to their hometowns before the Spring Festival were trapped on cold and congested highways, waiting for rescue.

The junction between the two provinces has been closed, and Zhao Yichen's car was blocked at the border of the neighboring province.  He took his ID and found the local armed police to help move the vehicles and passengers stranded on the highway. He worked sleeplessly for five days.  The day before the Shaoguan section was opened in early February, he walked to the nearest service area in heavy snow, intending to take a rest.

The ice collapsed the transmission tower, and the nearby power supply has not yet been restored. People crowded in the dimly lit fast food restaurant, rubbing their hands and breathing.  Zhao Yichen pushed open the door of the fast food restaurant and heard the feeble crying of babies and children.  Cold wind poured into the room, disturbing the dirty air.  Many people who were hunching their necks turned to look at him, and some figures huddled in the corner moved their heads but did not get up.  He looked around the store and realized there was no room to stay here.

After exiting the fast food restaurant and closing the door, Zhao Yichen tightened his collar, put his hands into the pockets of his coat, and turned around to walk to the bathroom.

The water pipes are not frozen, and you can still get a handful of water by turning the faucet.  He washed his face with ice-cold water, then leaned into a corner sheltered from the wind, took out his cigarette case and lighter, and lit a cigarette for himself.

The vast expanse of white snow covers the field of vision, reflecting the dizzying bright skylight.  The color as light as cotton wool crushes the bare trees, and also crushes the light and heat of the entire city.  He blew out a smoke ring and watched the wind and snow gradually bury the footprints where he came from.

At the beginning of 2006, he went to Shaoguan on a business trip, and it was there that he saw Xue for the first time.  Before leaving, Hu Jiaying packed his luggage for him. While rolling his thickest sweater into a tight bucket and stuffing it into the bag, she gave detailed instructions: "Actually, the coldest time is when the snow melts, sucking away all the heat.  . Don¡¯t rush to take off your clothes when the snow melts, otherwise you will suffer"

"Yeah." Zhao Yichen put on a sweater over his sweatshirt and put his arms into the sleeves, "Have you ever seen snow?"

She finally put two pairs of thick woolen socks into the bag on the side of his suitcase, paused, and then said, "I went to the north with my parents when I was a child." "I didn't have a chance to see it." He put on his coat again, casually  After straightening his collar, he lowered his head slightly to straighten his cuffs, "If it snows here too, it will be a miracle."

"There's nothing to see, and it's not as cold as you think." The sound of her zipping up her suitcase came from behind, "I think the winter here is actually colder."

Turning to look at her, Zhao Yichen smiled nonchalantly, "How is that possible?"

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of her standing up and walking slowly to him.  "It's true. It's clammy and biting." She raised her hand to turn his back collar and spoke in an understatement. Her slightly drooped eyelashes blocked the light that shone into her eyes. "It feels like the kind of cold that can kill someone."

Zhao Yichen took a long puff of cigarette.

The strong smell of smoke filled his mouth and nose, numbing his brain.  The image of Hu Jiaying's thin figure standing in front of him turning his collar gradually blurred. He still remembered the photos on the bedside of the bedroom at that time, the unworn texture of the wardrobe, and even the shape of the stains in the lampshade of the ceiling lamp.  But he couldn't remember her face.

He occasionally remembered that she had been missing for nearly two years.

It was like the shoe prints he left in the snow when he came, but within a few minutes they were covered by wind and snow, and no trace could be found again.

"Sir?" A strange female voice broke into my ears.

His ears were numb from the cold wind that had lost his temperature. Zhao Yichen turned his eyes and saw a woman standing next to him.  Long black leather boots, tight jeans covering her slender straight legs, a short scarlet down jacket on her upper body, and a slender neck protected by a long-collared sweater exposed from behind the raccoon fur collar.  Holding the cigarette between his fingers, he slowly moved his gaze upwards and landed on her face.

He has a face as big as a palm, eyebrows like a machete, and a pair of phoenix eyes with hooking tails.  Her long black hair was spread over her shoulders, and the skin on her face was dry and tight. She held a cigarette in her hand, and her bloodless lips opened and closed, and the hot breath quickly dissipated in the wind.

    She said, "Borrow a fire."

? Stretching out the hand holding the lighter in his trouser pocket, Zhao Yichen casually put the cigarette back to his lips and turned on the lighter.

The woman took a step closer to him and brought the cigarette butt in her hand to the dancing flame, which was quickly lit.  She was not very tall, and from his angle he could clearly see the slightly trembling eyelashes when she lowered her eyes.  Thick and long, slightly raised, with a few water droplets left after melting snowflakes filling the end, which was bright and dazzling in the jumping firelight.

Although she looks haggard, she is still a beautiful woman.

Release the switch with your thumb and the flame goes out.

The woman took two steps back, followed his example and leaned against the cold tile wall, slightly opened her lips, and took a deep breath of cigarette.

Looking at the heavy snow outside again, Zhao Yichen smelled the smell of her cigarette from the strong smell of tobacco.  He is not an anti-narcotics policeman, but he is no stranger to this smell.  After smoking in silence for a while, he took the initiative to speak.

    "Going to Hunan?"

Squinting her eyes and spitting out a cloud of white mist, the woman looked at the ice picks on the eaves and nodded casually, "Go back to your hometown to celebrate the New Year."

"How many days have you been stuck in traffic?"

    "eight days."

The warm smoky feeling entered his mouth, and Zhao Yichen took a slow breath, letting the white smoke overflow his lips and teeth.  The dense warmth made the cold lips tingle slightly.

He put out the sparks from the cigarette butt and said, "It's almost time."

Then he threw the cigarette butt into the trash can at hand, put on the hood of his coat, put his hands in his pockets, and walked into the biting snow and wind again.  The woman behind him didn't say goodbye or speak.

A shout came from the rear left.

    ¡ª¡ª¡°Zhou Nan!¡±

??Across the cold wind, the voice was blurred.  But Zhao Yichen stopped.

He turned around and saw a man running from the parking lot to the woman leaning against the sink.  The wind and snow were blinding, but Zhao Yichen could still see the man's face clearly.  The slightly fat body is still wearing a suit and leather shoes, with a square face, sharp eyebrows and starry eyes, and an aggressive frown.

    He knows him.

    Wang Shaofeng.

Zhao Yiqing woke up on the sofa in the living room.

The TV was still playing the news that had been broadcast in the morning repeatedly. She glanced at the clock on the wall and realized that it was already six o'clock in the afternoon.  The sky outside the window began to darken, and the room was quiet and there was no sound of anyone.  She quickly got up, grabbed the phone from the small round table at the end of the sofa, and dialed Liu Zhiyuan's mobile phone number.

The call was quickly connected, and Liu Zhiyuan's muffled voice came from the other end: "Hello? Yiqing?"

"Why haven't you come back yet? Have you picked up Ah Lei?" She lifted the blanket on her body, put down her legs and put on her slippers.

"Not yet. I just came out of school and I was delayed in a meeting today." The sound of the car door being closed on the phone was a bit harsh, and his voice rose a little higher, as if he was lowering his head to rummage for something, "By the way,  Don't make Yichen's meal tonight, he just called me and said he had work to do and couldn't come back, so he asked me to pick up Shanshan as well."

Zhao Yiqing hurriedly buttoned his hands, "Huh? Is there work again? Didn't their Xiao Bureau approve him two weeks of leave? How many days has it been?"

"It seems there is an urgent case. He is the captain of the criminal police after all. It's not like you don't know."

Touching her forehead, she frowned with a headache, held the phone and sighed.

"Okay. Then do you go to pick up Shanshan first or A Lei first?"

"Xiao Qin's children's mental rehabilitation center is very close to Ah Lei's school. I asked Ah Lei to pick up Shanshan first, and then I brought them both back together." Liu Yelei fastened his seat belt and turned the car  Key hot car.

With no other choice, Zhao Yiqing could only nod his head and said, "Okay, call me back when you get the call."

After hanging up the phone, the surroundings became quiet again.

She sat on the edge of the sofa, looked around the empty room, got up and walked to the kitchen.
