There was only one light on in the police station¡¯s interrogation room.

Xu Han sat on the chair in front of the inquiry table, lowering his head in silence, staring at the hem of his clothes.  Blue short sleeves, white hem.  She wears a school uniform but has never been to school.

¡°Little girl, what¡¯s your name?¡± the policewoman opposite asked her.

They have repeated this problem countless times, but still have no results.

Xu Han picked up his fingers, as if he didn't hear anything, and said nothing.

"How old are you this year?" Another policewoman asked again.

Touching the patched tear on the hem of her clothes, Xu Han could still remember Zhou Nan mending her clothes.

"Do you remember where your home is? Where are your parents?"

    No response at all.

She sat with her head down expressionlessly, like a mute.

The two policewomen across from the inquiry table exchanged glances with each other and sighed.

After the questioning, the policewoman arranged for Xu Han to sleep in the lounge.

She took off her shoes and climbed into the bed they had rolled up for her. She heard the policewoman turn off the lights and close the door before leaving.  The only sound left in the darkness was the beating of the second hand of the wall clock.

The bed is made up of several chairs.  As the weather turned cooler, the police brought another quilt from home to prevent Xu Han from catching a cold.  She buried her nose in the quilt and smelled the dry, warm breath.  But she was used to the wet, sticky feeling.  She kept her eyes open in the dark, not sleeping.

"It's been three days and you still haven't said a word." A low voice came from outside the door, "You're not mute, are you?"

"Impossible." It was Wu Lixia who answered her, "I have spoken to her."

The sound of conversation gradually faded away.

In the darkness, Xu Han closed his eyes.

Early the next morning, she was taken to the interrogation room again.

Wu Lixia sat at the inquiry table waiting for her.  The policewoman who led Xu Han in nodded to her and then left the interrogation room.  Xu Han stood by the door and saw Wu Lixia waving to her.  She then walked over to the chair and sat down.

Putting her clasped hands on the table, Wu Lixia looked her over, without any smile on her face.

"Little girl, I know you understand what I'm saying." She said, "You are not yet fourteen years old. You do not need to bear criminal responsibility for doing this kind of thing. According to the rules, we cannot arrest you.  The detention center has no choice but to let you go. But I have to tell you that we have arrested several children like you before you." At this point, she deliberately paused for a few seconds before continuing, "Let them go.  After I killed them, I happened to meet a few of them again - they either became stupid or had their legs broken and were lying on the side of the road begging."

Xu Han sat opposite her with his head lowered and motionless, saying nothing.

There is a mango tree planted outside the window of the inquiry room.  The fruiting season has passed, and only the dense branches and leaves on the trees stick out from the window.  A few sparrows landed on the branches and chirped noisily among the swaying branches and leaves.

Wu Lixia¡¯s eyes never left Xu Han¡¯s face.

"You should also know what will happen if you go back. Right?" she asked her.

The sparrow fluttered its wings and flew away.

Turning to look out the window, Xu Han only saw a corner of the blue-white sky.  She said nothing.

After waiting for a long time, Wu Lixia finally got up.  The scratched ankle was still wrapped in gauze. She limped out of the inquiry room and closed the door.  Another pair of sparrows flew past the window and landed on the swaying branches.  Xu Han kept turning his head and looked at them numbly.  One of them tilted his head and pecked at the feathers with his pointed beak.

"Wu Suo, otherwise we should let him go." Someone sighed softly outside the door, "I'm still young, but I'm old enough to have a memory. Maybe I remember where my home is."

The other sparrow flapped its wings, turned its head, and looked around flexibly.

"If she was really abducted, even if she remembers it, she will probably be too far away to go back." Wu Lixia's voice sounded muffled through the door panel, "You can't let him go. Let him go, and there will be a wolf in front of him and a tiger in the back."

Jumping down from the chair, Xu Han slowly walked to the window, held the window edge with both hands, and stared at the two sparrows carefully.

"Then we can't keep putting it off like this"

The policeman on duty rode his bicycle to the courtyard of the police station.  The sparrow was startled by the movement and fled from the branch in haste.  She raised her head and looked in the direction they left, seeing only the boundless sky.  The clouds were low, the sky was dim, the wind carried the smell of moisture, and the heavy rain did not fall.

    She remembersExercise book.

Wu Lixia lightly kicked the football and saw it rolling to the corner, then she wiped her hands and turned around to leave.

Only Xu Han and Wan Yuliang were left in the room.

She watched him turn on the desk lamp and start immersed in his homework.  The pen and paper clicked together, making a rustling sound.

After staring at his back for a few minutes, Xu Han slowly moved his eyes towards the bookcase.  On several shelves of bookshelves, books are placed close together and arranged neatly.  Placed against the wall, facing Wan Yuliang's bed.

"If you want to see it, just take it yourself." He suddenly said.

Looking back at him, Xu Han hesitated for a moment, stepped forward, opened the door of the bookcase, stood on tiptoe, and took out a book.

? Blue cover.  It's "The Old Man and the Sea" by Hemingway.

This night, Xu Han had a nightmare.

In the dream, she was traveling across the ocean in a small boat.  The wind blew at sea and it rained heavily.  She screamed in the bumps of the waves, facing the rain, unable to open her eyes.  She heard crying.  The heart-rending cry of the little girl.

Then all the sounds died down.  Xu Han opened his eyes, fell down from the hole in the corridor next to the foot washing shop, and fell next to a shirtless man.  Wearing only a pair of underwear, he lay stretched out on the cement floor, his mouth open, not moving, and not bleeding.

She turned her head to look at him, everything in front of her eyes was covered with a layer of blue.  The man changed his appearance and became a corpse in the stinking ditch west of Qiaoxi.  Blue flesh worms crawled out of his eyes, moving his body bit by bit.  She looked at her open hands.  Blue hand with a blue paper frog in the palm.

Xu Han woke up from sobbing.

There is no sound of rain outside the window.  The room was quiet except for the ticking of the wall clock.  Wu Lixia lay beside her and patted her back gently.

Xu Han gasped and closed his eyes. Xu Han pretended not to wake up, closed the hands curled up on his chest, and quietly tightened his collar.

She thought that her life was not as good as that big black dog.

    But she killed it.

She should have died at that time.  (Remember the website address: www.hlnovel.com
