    For the United States, a new heterogeneous ethnic group can freely maintain its own individuality.  But the prerequisite for it to be integrated into this country is that its individuals must learn and accept this political culture.  And once it achieves this, it can integrate into the "melting pot" with its own personality and live in harmony with other ethnic groups.

    The Soviet-style autonomy system originated from the concept of "nation-state" that emerged in modern Europe. It gives the broadest interpretation of "national autonomy": that is, any group that considers itself a nation as long as it has common cultural characteristics that they recognize each other,  It has the right to self-government in a territory where it has long lived.  At the same time, it also has the right to decide through a "referendum" whether to establish a sovereign and independent country on this territory.  It is not difficult to imagine that with this kind of national self-determination interpreted to the maximum extent, people simply cannot establish a unified country in a multi-ethnic situation unless some "tie-ups" are forcibly given.
