Chapter 740 ¡°New¡± Aircraft

Previous page        Return to Catalog        Next page

Charlie is a pilot of the British Royal Air Force. After the disaster, due to Britain's strategy of abandoning its homeland to ensure national survival, he and his flying group were transferred to an air force base in southern France and stationed here.  .

There is also a French flying regiment stationed with them, which makes this air force base, which is not too big, seem a bit crowded and cramped.

But this was only temporary. When the invasion of alien creatures began, the two flight groups and their aircraft stationed here were quickly exhausted.

A flight group usually has about 24 fighter jets, 50-80 pilots, varying numbers of reserve pilots and about 200 ground crew members.

In the modern war mode, the two flight groups are a very powerful combat force, but in the face of overwhelming alien creatures and harsh weather conditions, these two flight groups and the fighter jets they are equipped with cannot display their full potential.  Not to mention its intended function, it wears out quite quickly.

This also led to the fact that one month after the war with alien creatures began, in the air force base where Charlie was located, the two flight regiments totaled almost 200 pilots and only half of them were left. More than 50 fighter jets were lost, and only half of them were left.  The next seven or eight aircraft were spared due to damaged engines or lack of parts for repairs.

Not only that, the ground staff also suffered a certain amount of attrition. Although the attrition was not large, it still made the morale of the entire air force base quite low.

Although the idea of ??first-class people in the Air Force, second-class people in the Navy, and third-class people in the Army is just a joke, it does reflect the differences between the three from the side. After all, Air Force pilots are extremely valuable, and the Navy is also a high-tech branch.  , only the Army is ordinary.

Especially for the British, the Army is the only unit among the three British armies that does not have a royal title.

In the past, Charlie was very proud of his status as an elite Royal Air Force pilot.

But now, the Army, which they have always looked down upon, is fighting desperately on the front line to withstand the attack of alien creatures, while they, the Air Force, can only squat in the air force base. This not only stimulates their self-esteem, but also undoubtedly aggravates the anger of these Air Forces.  The morale of the pilots was low.

The loss of a large number of aircraft not only prevented them from going out to fight, but also made them idle now. After all, with such low morale and the loss of all aircraft, everyone had no intention of training. Most people just gathered in the dormitory every day to play cards and  Fight and kill boring time.

If it weren¡¯t for the current shortage of supplies, it would be difficult for even pilots like them to buy alcohol. Charlie believes there would be a lot of drunks in the base.

Charlie himself is fairly self-disciplined, perhaps as a result of his father's strict requirements since he was a child. Charlie still more or less retains the temperament and self-discipline of the British gentlemen back then, and has not fallen as bad as other teammates.

But even so, Charlie feels that this is all he can do. After all, the entire base is like this now, and there is nothing he can do.

Even the officers at the base were too lazy to restrain these pilots, and even daily training became indulgent.

This makes Charlie, who still insists on exercising as much as possible every day to maintain his own condition, feel very helpless.

With a helpless mood, Charlie ordered a lunch in the cafeteria, and then Charlie sat at a dining table and ate his lunch.

Due to the shortage of supplies and the need to supply them to the front line first, the base, which had a relatively guaranteed supply of supplies, is now gradually falling into a state of shortage. Lunch has dropped from bread, sausages and vegetables to almost only potatoes and carrots.  s level.

Even a large part of these potatoes and carrots were grown by the base after it cleared an underground hangar that no longer had any aircraft and then built a greenhouse.

Charlie doesn¡¯t think there¡¯s anything to complain about. Only when you can fight can you have enough to eat. Now that there are no planes, pilots like them are useless. Poor treatment is nothing.

But while accepting his fate like this, Charlie still felt a little unwilling. He really hoped that the higher-ups could get new planes, and he could also fly the plane back to the battlefield to fight those alien monsters, so that he felt that he had no power.  A waste of life.

In fact, Charlie is already filing reports and applying to be transferred to the front line. Even if he is just operating a machine gun in the trenches, Charlie feels it is better than sitting in the base doing nothing.

But it is obvious that Charlie¡¯s superiors do not want to send their precious pilots to the trenches ahead to waste them. Even if they have nothing to do now and there are no new aircraft for them, they are still precious pilots and cannot be wasted like this.fee.

While Charlie was eating potatoes and thinking about how to persuade his superiors to transfer him to the front line, a pilot with a French logo rushed towards him and shouted: "Hey! Charlie! OK!  News! We have a new plane!¡±

"New plane? What new plane?" Charlie still didn't understand the situation, so he quickly grabbed the French pilot and asked him: "Reno, please explain clearly, what is going on?"

Renault, who was pulled by Charlie, was very excited and danced to Charlie to vent his emotions: "New fighter jets! Charlie! New fighter jets are coming from above! 20 Sea Harriers and 18 Mirage F1s that were mothballed during the Cold War! We  There are planes! You can fly again!¡±

This French pilot Renault is a friend that Charlie only met after he came to this base. He is usually very enthusiastic. Obviously, having an airplane to fly again is a very exciting thing for him.

However, Charlie was surprised, but also felt doubtful and puzzled at the same time. He asked Renault: "Sea Harrier and Mirage F1? Aircraft from the Cold War? Where did they dig out these antiques? And these antiques  It¡¯s been out of production for many years, right? Are there still parts for repair?¡±

These Cold War-era aircraft are all outdated third-generation aircraft. Compared with the current mainstream fourth-generation aircraft, and even the fifth-generation aircraft that have already entered service in Yanguo, Lucia and the Federation, they are undoubtedly backward and will be eliminated.

But this does not mean that these aircraft cannot be used. After all, they were the main models of the year. Many aircraft that were put into service at the end of the Cold War have only been in storage for more than 20 years, and they are still sufficient for fighting alien creatures.

??Even in a sense, these third-generation machines are better than fourth-generation machines for fighting alien creatures.  (Remember the website address: www.hlnovel.com
