    In fact, although today¡¯s Uganda is adjacent to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan, two countries with ongoing civil strife, the political situation is relatively stable, the economy continues to grow, consumer demand is also rising, and shopping malls are spread throughout the capital city of Kampala.  Like many relatively backward countries, Uganda's economic development mainly relies on foreign investment. However, it has an export specialty that others cannot match - mercenaries.

    There are traces of mercenaries everywhere in Uganda.  On TV, a company called Middle East Consultants is showing a recruitment advertisement: looking for strong young men to be stationed in Dubai; chatting with taxi drivers, you will find that almost everyone has friends or relatives who have been mercenaries.  Official statistics are not available on how many mercenaries Uganda, with a population of only 37 million, exports every year.

    What is known is that in Iraq, Ugandans provide security for U.S. diplomats in Baghdad and Basra; they are also employers of foreign businessmen and international aid agencies in Afghanistan and Somalia; and they rely on them to patrol government offices in Qatar when it hosts the 2022 football match.  During the World Cup, the people standing guard inside and outside the stadium are likely to be Ugandans.

    ¡° Some of these mercenaries are elites who have received special American anti-terrorism training in Jordan, but most of them have not received professional training at all before going to foreign countries to perform tasks. As long as they are 170 centimeters tall, they can be called upon.

    Tempted by the salary, many young Ugandans are eager to join the ranks of overseas mercenaries even if they have no experience with weapons.  If they can return home safely, they can use the money they earn to buy land, build houses, and open shops, greatly improving their lives.

     Mercenaries are an important source of foreign exchange earnings for Uganda.  Statistics from the Ministry of Women, Labor and Social Development show that in 2009, the foreign currency sent back by mercenaries from overseas exceeded their income from coffee exports.

    The Kampala branch of Interpol is responsible for conducting background checks on Ugandans who are about to be sent overseas to do security work. Only those who pass the test can obtain exit permits to ensure that these people are not recruited by extremist organizations to become terrorists.  There are about 1,000 such reviews every month, excluding those who are stationed in non-sensitive areas without review, those whose licenses have expired and failed to report in time, or those who smuggled out.  Industry insiders conservatively estimate that the total number of Ugandan mercenaries currently working overseas is around 20,000.

    These mercenaries are proficient in using weapons and have experienced actual combat, so going to Uganda to find mercenaries is a shortcut.

    Many local companies in the mercenary business in Uganda are also growing day by day.  Askar Security Services was the first local company to provide services to Western military contractors during the Iraq War, sending thousands of Ugandans to Iraq.  Its headquarters office building has a large independent area and is currently very famous in Uganda.
