Peiping. North China Front Army Headquarters.

After receiving the enemy information report from Major General Shanggang Martial Arts, Okamura Neji was completely stunned and asked in disbelief: "Nani, tell me again, that person appeared in the northwest of Taiyuan.  ?¡±

"Hai, the First Army Headquarters received a request for help from the Kelan defenders ten minutes ago. However, when they prepared to inquire about the situation in detail, they found that the contact between the two parties had been severed. From this, they judged that the Kelan defenders  The army is already in dire straits." Lieutenant General Ojoto Sanji said in a deep voice.

"Baga! What does that person want to do? How can they have the energy to attack northwest Shanxi? Isn't that Tubal Road's territory?" Okamura Neiji roared.

"Your Excellency, judging from the current situation, it seems that the Zhi/Na people are planning to go directly south from Shenchi, Wuzhai and Kelan, and penetrate outside Taiyuan City. In the words of the Zhi/Na people, they are going straight to Huanglong!"

"The main force of the First Army is fighting a bloody battle with that person on the Xinkou line. There are not many troops in the Taiyuan direction. Once the person breaks through the defenses of Kelan and Jingle, the consequences will be disastrous!" Okamura Neiji  road.

"Then should we order the main force of the First Army to return to support the Shanxi battlefield?"

"Immediately send a report to His Excellency Yoshimoto Teiichi and inquire about the war in the direction of Lingbao!" Okamura Neiji ordered.

    "Hai!"

When the telegram from the North China Front Army Headquarters was sent, Yoshimoto Teiichi also had a headache, because the Battle of Lingbao had just started.

The 1st Army headquarters located on the Henan front line, ranging from Commander Yoshimoto Sadichi to ordinary soldiers, originally thought that after the attack began, they could quickly defeat the defenders' defenses and occupy the national army's defensive positions on both sides of the Hongnong River.  Then they pursued Axiang to the west and quickly completed the task of annihilating the defenders there.

But in fact, the battle was far more difficult than they imagined. Since they had to wait for the follow-up troops to come up, the attack originally scheduled for June 2 was delayed until the 4th, and the main force of the 69th Division was launched in June.  The attack was launched at 6 a.m. on the 5th, but was immediately met with strong resistance from the national army.

What made the Japanese army at the front even more depressing was that despite the bad weather, the Chinese air force still dispatched to support the ground troops in operations and launched an attack on the 85th and 118th Independent Infantry Brigades of the 59th Brigade in the mountains north of Caomiao.  Continuous attacks and bombings caused many casualties in these two brigades.

At present, the national army has strengthened its troops to the front to stabilize the front, and at the same time ordered the troops on the southern flank to attack the Liujiahe, Gaojiashan, and Triangle Mountain areas.

Based on this unfavorable situation, Kimura Chiyota increased his troops to the front line by a total of 5 infantry brigades. The situation still did not improve, so he had to concentrate his artillery to open up offensive roads and prepare to attack the Kangling and Miaogou River areas.

The independent mixed 3rd Brigade under the command of the 69th Division also had trouble attacking. Not only was it being stubbornly blocked by two divisions of the National Army, it was also frequently counterattacked by the National Army, causing heavy casualties.  It has been more than four hours since the battle started, and the brigade has not made any progress, but has suffered heavy casualties.

The 9th Independent Infantry Brigade near the camp, with the cooperation of two tank squadrons led by Colonel Kentaro Watanabe and the 6th Field Heavy Artillery Regiment, fought continuously with the defenders.

By 6 a.m. on June 5, the brigade marched about 8 kilometers westward and reached Buzhang, Nanjiawa and Miaohou areas in the northeast of Guolue Town.

On the evening of June 4th, Yamaji Hideo's 3rd Tank Division arrived near Shaanxi County. Its mission was to start operations on the evening of June 5th, defeat the defenders along the way, and advance to the northeast of Guolue Town to gain access to the 69th Division.  After making contact and breaking through the defenders' positions, they attacked and advanced to the west of Luxiang.

After arriving at Guolue Town, two tank squadrons led by Colonel Watanabe Kentaro returned to the 3rd Tank Division to build up.

At present, when the three brigades of the 1st Army and the 3rd Tank Division attacked, due to the heroic resistance of the defenders, the enemy suffered heavy casualties, and it was impossible to capture Lingbao in a short time.

And the situation on the Shanxi battlefield was very urgent, which put Yoshimoto Sadashi in a dilemma.

After a slight hesitation, he still reported the actual situation to the North China Front Army Headquarters and let Neji Okamura, the front commander, make up his mind!

After learning about the situation on the front line, Okamura Neji also fell silent.

The battlefield in Shanxi is important, and the battlefield in Henan is equally important.

You must know that this battle in western Henan is part of the effort to open up the communication line with the mainland, and the current situation in the Pacific battlefield is becoming increasingly unfavorable to the Imperial Japanese Army. Facing MacArthur¡¯s island-hopping tactics, the Southern Army has almost no chance of losing air supremacy.  The power to fight back.

If the mainland transportation line is not opened as soon as possible, the whole situation will fall into a comprehensive passive state.Thinking of these serious consequences, Okamura Neiji finally gritted his teeth and decided to order the troops on the Henan battlefield to speed up their operations and there was no need to return to Shanxi for the time being.

At the same time, in order to ensure the situation on the Shanxi battlefield, Okamura Neiji urgently transferred the Japanese 114th Division stationed in southern Hebei to the Shanxi battlefield.

Since it takes at least two days for the 114th Division to assemble and hand over the defense area, plus a day and a half of marching time, this requires the troops in the Taiyuan direction to support at least three and a half to four days.

After careful analysis, Okamura Neiji felt that there should be no problem with the defenders in the direction of Taiyuan.

The reason why Okamura Neiji is so confident is mainly because the situation on the Kelan front line is still unclear. Although the two sides have currently interrupted contact, it does not mean that the Kelan defenders have been wiped out by the regiment. It may also be that the radio station has appeared.  Fault.

This is not the first time that this kind of thing has happened to the Japanese army. Especially during combat or on the march, it is common for radio communication to fail.

Even on the front line, because they did not know the specific location of certain troops in the front, nor what situation they were in, some headquarters had to send small cavalry units to search and communicate.

This kind of thing may have happened to the Kelan defenders. This is also possible.

It doesn't matter if Kelan is conquered by the enemy. Kelan is more than 200 kilometers away from Taiyuan City, separated by Jingle, Loufan, Gujiao and other places.  The poor infrastructure in northwestern Shanxi means that it would take a person at least three days to walk 200 kilometers.

What's more, the Imperial Japanese Army can't just let that person run rampant and just stop them in Jingle or Loufan, and they can hold on for a few days.

And once the reinforcements arrived in Taiyuan, the support/that person's plan to capture Taiyuan completely failed.

But what Okamura Ningji didn't know was that the troops under Li Guoyao on the Western Front could be said to be the essence of the entire Jiujiu Army. In addition to this unit, this force also had the armored regiment, artillery regiment, and air defense regiment of the Jiujiu Army.  Arms, half of the troops of the 177th Division to which it belongs are equipped with war horses.

With these war horses for transportation, the marching speed of the Western Front troops far exceeded the Japanese army's expectations.

Just as they were studying how to respond, the 177th Division had already captured Kelan County and quickly advanced towards Jingle.
