    Although the Jianqiao air battle ended in only 20 minutes, 6 of the 18 enemy aircraft dispatched were shot down over Hangzhou and 7 were missing. All the War Eagles of the Fourth Group returned to the airport safely.

    The "August 14th" air battle was the first air battle after the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War across the country. It was a typical example of a weak country's air force defeating a powerful country's air force.  This air battle shocked China and foreign countries, dealt a heavy blow to the Japanese invaders, and greatly boosted the ambition of the Chinese nation.  After the news of the victory spread, the whole country rejoiced, and Gao Zhihang became famous in one fell swoop.

    However, no one expected that in late November 1937, when Gao Zhihang was ordered to lead a team to Lanzhou to receive 100 new destroyers aided by the Soviet Union, he was retaliated by the Japanese aviation force and eventually died heroically. He was only 30 years old.
