Chapter 1797 Bloody Pine Mountain

Previous page        Return to Catalog        Next page

After the smoke cleared, the sea was calm. Only the various planks and corpses floating on the sea could tell the story of the tragic battles that took place here.

In the battle at Zhan Chan Outer Harbor, the entire Baekje Navy was wiped out, and their commander Guo Xin sank into the sea and died.  At this point, the Sui army regained the control of the sea that it had lost after the defeat at the mouth of the Xishui River.

After the war, Huang Mingjun ordered people to go to Joseon City to report the news. However, the main force of the navy under his command had no time to delay, so they continued south and attacked Xuekou Island (today's Ganghwa Island, South Korea).

After the main force of Qiwei defeated Haiming County, the troops were divided into two groups.  The Northern Route Army successively conquered Hancheng, Daifang, Yangyue and other places, and finally annihilated Huang Mingli's troops in Tuenyou and Yinquan respectively.

And the 40,000 troops in the south, under the command of the Japanese general Jingbuchen, occupied Haigucheng (today's Yan'an County, North Korea) and surrounded the Sui army in Songyue City from the north.

Songyue City is located at the intersection of Licheng River, Hulu River, Han River and Wangfeng River, surrounded by water on several sides.  Since most of the Japanese troops were naval forces, the Baekje army was the main siege force, while the Japanese army based itself on Xengkou Island and was responsible for guarding the mouth of the Han River and providing water cover.

Since Da Xihao ordered to hold on, the defense battle of Songyue City has been going on for more than a month.

Songyue City is located on an alluvial plain with gentle terrain, making it difficult to defend.  In order to defend against the Silla people, Da Xihao dug several trenches from the Han River to the north and connected them with the Han River to form a dense water network to block the enemy.  Three small cities were built outside the city, with arrow towers on them, forming a horn-like relationship with Songyue City.

Yunzhong, the commander-in-chief of Baekje, launched more than 20 attacks on Songak City, but all failed.

The Sui army had sufficient supplies in the city and deployed artillery carts widely in the city. As soon as the Baekje army approached, they had to withstand a rain of arrows and stone bullets.  The entire outside of Songyue City had become a Shura field, littered with corpses.

Later, the Baekje people saw that Songak City was in such a hurry that it was difficult to conquer, so they asked the Japanese for support.

The main reason is that attacking Songyue City consumes too much manpower. No matter how many Baekje people there are, they cannot withstand this kind of consumption.  There is no reason for everyone to fight together, and I am the only one who consumes it.

The Minister of Environment also knows that the foot of Songyue City is a meat grinder. If his subordinates join in, they may not be able to break the city, but they are likely to suffer heavy losses.

"But the two sides are allies, and it's hard for the minister to refuse.

The ministers of the Ministry of Environment led their troops to the foot of Songyue City. They originally wanted to deal with the opponent, but they found that Songyue City was close to the Licheng River, and the two sides were only four or five hundred steps away.

The Sui army relied on the Licheng River to build the western defense line.

The minister suddenly thought that since the Yeseong River is so close to Songak Castle, why not dig a canal from the Yeseong River directly to the foot of Songak Castle so that the Japanese warships can approach Songak Castle, and the Japanese army can  Attack from warships.

The warship is huge and can be equipped with multiple archers and catapults to attack Songyue City.  The warships were covered with cowhide to protect them from enemy fire attacks and stone bullets.

After hearing this, Yunzhong couldn't help but admire the wonderful idea of ??the minister.

So Yunzhong acted according to his plan and sent people to dig the canal for 400 steps overnight, so that Li Chengjiang turned a small bend in the west of Songyue City and approached the foot of Songyue City.

As expected, the Japanese army drove their warships to the city.

The Japanese warships were as tall as the city walls.  Japanese soldiers built planks from the warships onto the city wall, connected the two sides, and then launched an attack.

Without the height advantage of the city wall, the Sui army's crossbows and artillery carts gradually lost their advantage and fell into a consuming battle with the opponent.  Although the Sui army's artillery vehicles were powerful, they could not be replenished. After many days of fighting, more than two-thirds of them were lost.  However, the Baekje and Japanese used low-quality catapults to consume the Sui army.

In order to disrupt the Sui army's defense in the city, the Baekje people continuously attacked from the boats, and went to the top of the city several times to fight fiercely with the Sui army.  Although the Sui army fought bravely and drove the opponent down several times, it was still full of dangers.

Seeing that these warships were like fortresses on the water and had become the formidable enemy of Songyue City, Da Xihao had to organize troops several times in an attempt to capture the warships, but the results were not satisfactory.

The Baekje people have no shortage of soldiers. If they fight alone, the Sui army is no match.

By the beginning of April, the battle in Songyue City became increasingly fierce.  The two sides exhausted each other until they were almost exhausted, and neither dared to relax, so they had to grit their teeth and hold on as hard as they could. The inside and outside of Songyue City was almost like a sea of ??blood.

On April 5, Da Xihao¡¯s deputy general Gao Yuanzhen had to personally lead the assault.

More than a hundred Sui soldiers used big wooden boards to build up the bow of the Japanese ship, and Gao Yuanzhen led the dead soldiers to rush to the stationed ship.  Several times before, the Sui army hoped to control the warships.  After all, destroying a warship is of little significance. There are many Japanese warships. When the enemy comes again, it is better to control the warships and block the river.

It is certainly difficult to control the warship without damaging it, so the Sui army repeatedly failed.

This time Gao Yuanzhen changed his thinking and focused on destruction.  After the Sui army boarded the ship, they guarded against fire on all sides. Even if the Japanese came to kill them, they did not fight with the enemy.

Soon more than a dozen warships were on fire, the fire was raging, and the flames shot into the sky.

Gao Yuanzhen and others retreated to the city, put up planks again, and dumped earth and rocks from the planks onto the boats.  As the warships burned, a large amount of earth and rocks slowed down the speed and extent of the warships' burning, causing the half-destroyed warships to completely block the river channel.

These earth and rocks were excavated from the city under the order of Da Xihao. For this reason, hundreds of houses in the city were demolished.

The Sui army's ship-destroying operation really hindered the Baekje attack.  I don¡¯t know how long it will take for the Baekje people to clear the river and for the new boats to be put back in place.

Yunzhong was very annoyed, but to no avail, he could only dredge the river again.

Yunzhong was full of dissatisfaction with this failure. He believed that it was caused by the inaction of the Japanese people.  The Japanese were unwilling to compete with the Sui army, so they handed over the ships to them and retreated. He was unable to do anything, and he was concerned about one thing and the other, so he was attacked by the Sui army.

Yunzhong once again asked the Japanese to take full responsibility for the attack on Xicheng, otherwise he would ask Baekje to reconsider the distribution of post-war spoils.

The Ministry of Environment originally tried to shirk responsibility for a city wall, but when it came to the distribution of spoils, he had to care.  After all, the Japanese people traveled across the ocean not for the sake of humanitarianism.

In the end, the Baekje people had to allocate 5,000 troops and 5,000 civilians to support the Japanese, and the ministers had to reluctantly accept it.

The people of Baekje have been burning with anger for so many days.

The Ministry of Environment also knew that he could no longer shirk, otherwise both parties would have to fall out on the spot.  But the minister of the environment is really unwilling. If the warships are lost, there will be more in the future, but if the people are lost, there will be no more.

The Japanese army dragged their feet and reluctantly finally came to the battlefield.

??????????????????????? But to attack the city, we still need to rely on the ant attack, and the navy can only be regarded as a support.  So the minister of the Ministry of Environment ordered the main navy's ships to dock at the port of Anakou Castle, and he led the Japanese army to leave Anakou and attack Songakou Castle.  (Remember the website address: www.hlnovel.com
