Chapter 1689 Cemetery of Heroes

Previous page        Return to Catalog        Next page

Yongxia Yingling Cemetery is located in the most prosperous area of ??Yongxia City.

Chinese people are taboo about the souls of the dead and are usually unwilling to live near cemeteries.  However, when Zhao Hao tentatively proposed through the Governor's Mansion that he hoped to build a martyrs cemetery in the city, the people of Yongxia expressed support one after another.

Because those martyrs who sacrificed their lives to defend their homeland will surely live with their heroic spirit forever, and they will turn into heroic spirits who subdue demons and demons after their death, guarding this hot land forever!

It¡¯s just that the name ¡®Martyrs Cemetery¡¯ is a bit taboo, so it was finally named the Cemetery of Heroes.

So the Governor's Mansion set aside a hundred acres of land on a sunny slope east of the city, and spent four years building the martyrs' cemetery designed by Mr. Zhao himself.

The cemetery is rectangular in shape, with no masonry walls around it. Only neatly trimmed pines and cypresses are planted, guarding the cemetery like guards.

The main entrance is made of three huge rectangular black basalt stones.  A huge stone lying horizontally is engraved with six large gilt characters of "Yongxia Yingling Cemetery".  There is a couplet carved on the boulders on the left and right:

"The might of Nanyang is strong, and a hundred thousand heroes are the mainstay; the light competes with the sun and the moon, and the surname of Qianqiu is China"!

These three huge stones were mined by masons in the Luzon Mountains two hundred miles away for more than half a year. After rough analysis, they were transported back from hundreds of miles away using the log-rolling method.

You need to lay sleepers on the ground first, put the logs on the sleepers as rolling logs, then put the boulders on the rolling logs, and push them forward little by little.

Using this method, we can only move one mile a day, and it takes two hundred days to transport it to Yongxia City.

This is a very ancient method. Many immigrants have had the experience of being built by royal tombs or building palaces for feudal kings. They have witnessed such scenes and even participated in them personally.  Those experiences brought them nothing but endless pain, blood and tears, and they still itch with hatred when they talk about it.

However, this time, wherever the stone transport team went, members lined the streets to greet them, and the sound of firecrackers was heard all the time.

Members of various communities enthusiastically signed up to contribute voluntarily to the stone transport team. Women and the elderly prepared meals and herbal tea for the team members, and helped them with laundry and mending. Everyone wanted to contribute to this glorious thing.

Because the palaces built in the past were inhabited by people who could not survive while others were alive. Even after death, they would continue to torture others by building luxurious tombs.

And this time, it is to commemorate those who sacrificed for others to live a better life. The eyes of the people are sharp, and they do their best to give these people the best memorial.

Entering the cemetery gate, there is a straight Shinto paved with white marble, leading directly to the Hall of Heroes located in the center of the cemetery.

The Hall of Heroes, with its octagonal peaks and double eaves, sits on a three-story white marble platform, hung with black tiles, and supported by sixteen large black pillars. It is majestic and solemn.

The eight corners of the Hall of Heroes each correspond to a straight white marble shrine, leading to all directions of the cemetery.  The green grass beside the shrine is very flat. There have been 788 marble tombstones, neatly arranged in the east tomb area of ??the main shrine. They were those who died in the battle to defend Luzon since the second year of Wanli.  , martyrs who died fighting pirates and in military training.

In the west tomb area, 367 new tombstones were erected, which are the resting places of the heroes who died in this battle.

The coffins of Wang Rulong and the 366 martyrs rested in the Hall of Heroes for three days. During this period, people from Luzon took turns to come to mourn. Even social workers from as far away as Tortoiseshell and Baguio came to bow and lay flowers to General Wang and the martyrs.

So the inside and outside of the Hall of Heroes became a sea of ??flowers

Three days later, on the fourth day of the twelfth lunar month, the heroic spirit was buried.

The guard of honor held up a silver breech-loaded flintlock rifle and fired seven shots into the air.  Amidst the crisp sound of gunfire, one coffin was slowly sent into the tomb.

Then the bugler blew the lights-out signal, and the robes began to shovel dirt to cover the coffin with the black gold anchor.

Although most of the family members of the coast guard and soldiers are in the mainland, the Luzon people who came to see them off could not help but cry.

The crying was contagious, and soon everyone was crying together.  Even Sebastian, who came to watch the fun, couldn't help wiping away tears.

Pinto, who was by his side, cried until his eyes were red.  Several of the students here are his students

At the top of the cemetery, on the obviously larger black marble tombstone, there are three gold stars engraved on the top. Below it is engraved a line of italic characters 'Tomb of Admiral Wang Rulong', and below it is inscribed 'Zhao Hao Jingli'.  '.

There is an open book-shaped stone carving in front of the tombstone, with only six words engraved on it, summarizing Wang Rulong¡¯s life achievements:

¡®Resist the Japanese, chase the Portuguese, and bring peace to the West!  ¡¯

&nb??Perhaps our biggest mistake was coming to the Far East and awakening this sleeping dragon.  "

    "The sleeping dragon?"

"Yes, Your Majesty, the Ming Dynasty has a population of 200 to 300 million, while our country has less than 2 million, which is insignificant compared with them. Because the domestic population is too large, Jiangnan Group plans to immigrate 2 million overseas every year! One year!  There are more immigrants than our entire population! How can we fight them?!" Pinto raised his voice:

"So Your Majesty, we should never be enemies of this empire. Moreover, there is an old Chinese saying that makes friends from far away and attacks close by. The Ming Dynasty is suitable to be our ally. With the Jiangnan Group as its backer, Portugal will no longer have to worry about being annexed by Spain, and even has the ability to  Europe wins higher status!"

"Well, what you said makes sense." Sebastian nodded and said, "But what does that Young Master Zhao mean?"

"After this battle is over, Young Master Zhao should talk to His Majesty." Pinto said softly.  (Remember the website address: www.hlnovel.com
