After sending Heywood and the two away, Qin Shiou continued to plan the construction of the fishery. At the same time, he called Bill Sage, the account manager of Dick Sea Aquatic Vegetation Company. Although his main business is marine vegetation, after all, they are both agricultural and he is interested in grapes.  He also knows about gardening.

When he learned that Qin Shiou wanted to develop a vineyard, Bill, who had come all the way after a long journey, laughed and waved his hand: "No, no, no, Qin, this is inappropriate. Most of Canada's vineyards are concentrated in the south, and Farewell Island is even more in the south.  South, but it¡¯s not appropriate.¡±

    "Why?"

"You are right on the seaside! Vineyards cannot be planted on the seaside. The humidity at night is too heavy. The grapes cannot stand the humidity. They will not die, but the taste will be very bad, especially sour and bitter!" Bill explained.

Hearing what he said, Qin Shiou shrugged and did not accept the explanation. Yes, he knew that the seaside was not suitable for planting vineyards.  Canada's vineyards are mainly concentrated near the southern Lake District - this is because large bodies of water can alleviate the extreme cold weather in Canada's winter and early spring and protect the grapevines.

In addition, the lake area is different from the ocean. They both have water, but one has no wind and the other has strong winds. The other has no tide and the other has heavy moisture. They are two different environments.

In fact, Canada is not suitable for developing vineyards. Canada is a large country with more than 10 million square kilometers, but there are only four important wine-producing areas, namely Ontario, British Columbia, Nova Scotia and Quebec.

Among them, Ontario is the most important, accounting for about 75% of the national production. The only production areas that meet the VQA standards of the Canadian Wine Quality Alliance are Ontario and British Columbia.

Even these two provinces can produce very few high-quality dry reds and dry whites, and they mainly produce ice wine.  Of course, when Qin Shiou developed the vineyard, in addition to growing some table grapes for his own consumption, he also focused on making ice wine.

Qin Shiou doesn't care about the taste of grapes produced on the coast. What he wants is to survive. As long as he can survive and infuse the grapevines with Poseidon energy, the grapes produced will be absolutely delicious.

Bill explained, but Qin Shiou didn't listen. He only asked him how to develop the vineyard and which grapes to choose.

Qin Shiou checked the information and found that before the 1980s, most of the grapes grown in Canada were cold-resistant American varieties.  However, the wine produced from these strains of grapes tastes astringent and sour, so after the 1980s, European wine grape varieties gradually became the mainstream of planting.

Of course, the so-called European grape varieties chosen by Canadian vineyard owners are also hybrids, such as the red grape variety Barco Noir and Marechal-Fuchs hybrid, and the white grape variety Blanche and Vidal.  Resistant to cold.

White grape varieties such as Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Gew¨¹rztraminer and Pinot Grigio, and red grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes. These pure and high-quality European wine grapes are grown in the bitter cold of Canada.  Unable to survive the climate.

Qin Shiou didn't care about this, he just chose whatever grape variety was good for him, and directly asked Bill to recommend the best grape variety to him.

Seeing his stubbornness, Bill could only shrug and say, "The customer is God." Then he called his friends in the grape growing industry and recommended several varieties to Qin Shiou.

Qin Shiou made a decision and mainly chose North American grapes. This is a delicious grape that originated in California and is now sold all over the world.  But this grape is not very cold-tolerant, and Bill is not optimistic that it will survive on Farewell Island.

For brewing grapes, Qin Shiou chose two types. The red grape is Cabernet Sauvignon, and the white grape is Riesling. These two grapes are the most famous brewing grapes.

Bill suggested that Qin Shiou choose Vidal, a hybrid grape that is now mostly grown in ice wine wineries in Ontario.

Qin Shiou did some research and found that grapes like Vidal mature slowly, have strong resistance to severe cold, and are well adapted to survive in severe cold areas.  In addition, its peel is thick, not easy to rot, and easy to preserve. It can still hang on branches for three or four months after maturity to resist the severe cold in high latitudes, so it is often used to brew ice wine.

¡°But the ice wine brewed by Vidal has too low acidity, is too sweet, and lacks the fragrance and floral aroma of wine, which Qin Shiou doesn¡¯t like very much.

In comparison, Riesling is a much better variety. The grapes also mature slowly, but the wine they produce has a very delicate taste and aroma.

Moreover, the grape Riesling needs a long and cool climate to form its elegant flavor. During this period, it can maintain a high acidity and good balance in the grapes. The sweetness in ice wine makes the wine full-bodied, layered, and fragrant.

It¡¯s just that Riesling is very delicate, and its production is often reduced due to sunlight, temperature and epidemics, so it has not become popular in Canada.

Qin Shiou chose these delicate varieties because he knew that there were tigers in the mountains and preferred to go to the tiger mountains.

In addition, the reason for choosing Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon, in addition to their reputation and good taste, is that they are both suitable for growing in sandy land, which is exactly suitable for the fishery environment.

After selecting the grape varieties, Qin Shiou asked Bill to help him purchase grape seedlings. He and the fishermen reclaimed the small highland and built it according to the requirements of the vineyard.

Grapes like light, and vineyards require good wind and light conditions.  This small highland completely meets the standard. The terrain is high and it is difficult to accumulate water. After the drainage ditch is built, even heavy rains will have little impact.

The most suitable time to plant grape seedlings is after the leaves fall in autumn or before budding in spring. Spring comes late in Canada, and this is also the budding period. Planting the seedlings is not complete.

Qin Shiou divided the 150 acres of highland into eight planting areas. Basically, one planting area is about 20 acres. One planting area grows edible grapes, mainly red grapes, but also black grapes and green grapes.  A total of more than twenty varieties were used.

The remaining seven planting areas were all used to grow wine grapes. Shaq drove the rotary tiller to till the entire land. The rotary tiller roller rotated rapidly, chopping up the sandy land that had not been used for a long time in an extremely fine way.

Occasionally, rocks, shells and other things are found in some places, and the sea monster will drive a car equipped with a rake to clean them out.

At this time, we can see the importance of the pickup truck. These agricultural tools can be connected to the pickup truck for use.

After plowing the land, Shaq set up the boundaries of the working area, using a compactor to create a road. Later people and vehicles would walk on these roads when entering the plantation.

The roads in the working area are flat and straight, with each strip either parallel or vertical, cutting the entire vineyard into small squares.

The work is now in progress, and only preparations have been made. Qin Shiou purchased enough wood from St. John's, and then used a pile driver to plant the wood into the ground, and stretched steel bars and wires in between for the grapes to climb on in the future.  .

In this way, the remaining work is to wait for the grape seedlings to arrive.  (Remember the website address: www.hlnovel.com
