The late autumn rain was cold and cold, and the oil lamps dancing in the house were extinguished. At the same time, there was a knock on the door amidst the sound of rain.

The old man who was sitting blankly jumped up in shock.

The knocking on the door stopped for a moment, seemingly giving the people in the room a chance to recover, and then rang again, with intensity that penetrated the sound of rain but did not break people's hearts.

Through the knock on the door, the old man seemed to be able to see a strong man outside the door, but he was not vicious.

"Who is it?" the old man asked in a trembling voice, without taking a step forward, and held the corner of the table tightly with his hands.

"My husband, I'm passing by. It's raining too hard and I want to stay overnight." The male voice outside was steady and powerful, cutting through the heavy rain.

Staying overnight, the old man looks at his small and humble interior.

"It's not convenient in the house, but you can do it in the yard or outside the door. Let me tell my husband so that I don't get scared." came a female voice.

"A woman, a girl to be precise." The old man hesitated and slowly walked towards the door, looking out through the dilapidated door. It was pitch black, and the figures overlapped with the night.

The figure was blocked outside the courtyard by a circle of fences and wooden doors. The sparse fence and simple door panels were shaken by the wind and rain, but the figures behind them seemed to be facing an iron wall and could not take a step forward.

The old man sighed softly in his heart and opened the door: "Let's talk after we come in first."

Jin Jue lit the lamp with the oil he brought with him. Fang Er took the lotus hat and amber shirt that Li Minglou had taken off. The surprised old man in the corner looked horrified.

When the torch lit up when the courtyard door was opened, a figure wearing a lotus on his head and a yellow shirt appeared in front of him in the night. The old man thought he had seen a god and was so surprised that he was at a loss.

And when the clothes and hat were taken off, the girl underneath turned out to be a ghost.

    God?  monster?

"I'm looking for a doctor who passed by here and disturbed my husband." Li Minglou took the initiative to explain and comfort him.

¡°Doctor, you are sick and you can¡¯t even see anyone. It¡¯s pitiful. The fear on the old man¡¯s face disappeared and was replaced by sympathy.

"It's fine for Miss to live in the house, and the rest of us will rest on the porch and in the woodshed." Yuanji thanked the old man.

The old man looked outside the door. Although he was invited, only these few people walked in. The others were still standing quietly outside, being washed away by the rain.

"What's the point? It's raining so heavily and it's cold." The old man said, picking up his crutches. "Wait a moment. I'll find a place for you. Our village is not big, but we can still squeeze in a few dozen people."  It¡¯s crowded, but it¡¯s just not convenient right now. Sigh, wait a minute, I¡¯ll go ask.¡±

He walked out, limping with a cane and mumbling.

Yuanji wanted to follow him, but the old man refused: "No, no, no, I'll go by myself." He muttered, took his raincoat and hat, and went out in the rain.

Although he was in a strange and crude place, Li Minglou did not feel uncomfortable. He sat down by himself and put kumquats on the clay stove. When a pot of tea was boiled, the old man limped back on crutches, with a few people behind him.  Seven or eight villagers followed, looking at them with frightened expressions under the light of torches.

Li Minglou could see that they were scared, but they agreed to stay overnight. Although most of the accommodation provided were woodsheds, livestock sheds and under the eaves, it was enough for Yuanji and others.

They carry with them an oil tent to protect themselves from the rain, so they can have a good rest.

Fang Er and Jin Jue accompanied Li Minglou to the old man's place. Yuan Ji led the others and followed the villagers to disperse. The noise in the rainy night gradually calmed down.

Jin Jue simply made the bed, and Li Minglou lay down to rest. Jin Jue and Fang Er made a bed on the floor, while the old man took refuge in the firewood shed. In response to the old man's kindness and courtesy, Li Minglou did not refuse, and he did as he pleased.

There was no words all night, and the rain stopped at dawn. Even though his head and face were wrapped, Li Minglou opened the door and felt the coolness on his face, and he could see the village clearly.

The village is neither big nor small. The old man lives at the end of the village. Further inside, you can see scattered houses. They are all simple adobe houses. A few of them are surrounded by low walls, and most of them are fences and bamboo doors. However, it is clear after the rain.  The breath is mixed with the smoke of fireworks, but there is no smoke rising in the village, and there are no chickens crowing or dogs barking. Are the chickens and dogs still sleeping

Yuanji came over: "Miss, you can go."

The soldiers who had rested for the night on the road outside the village were already on horseback and ready to go.

"Every family put a piece of silver in it," Yuanji said.

Li Minglou doesn¡¯t care about these little things: ¡°This village is a bit weird.¡±

Yuanji said: "Some houses in the village have been burned by fire. The people we stayed in still cried at night. Some people hung white cloths to hold funerals."

?Is it due to dryness in late autumn?  Everyone in this world has their own sorrows and worries.

Li Minglou didn¡¯t ask again and started to leave. The old man limped out of the stove and said, ¡°There¡¯s nothing to entertain. I¡¯ve made a pot of hot soup. You can drink it to warm yourself up.¡±

Li Minglou thanked him, and Jin Jue walked over with a smile and handed a piece of silver to the old man: "Take it, old man, this is our accommodation money."

This piece of silver could not be used up for a year. The old man was shocked and threw the money back: "No, no, how can I have it?"

Some villagers outside also ran over with panic-stricken expressions. It turned out that they also found the broken silver placed under the eaves and came to inquire and return it.

Yuanji repeatedly explained that it was a gift, but the villagers still did not dare to accept it. Li Minglou was impatient with this kind of exchange and wanted Yuanji to take it back. Since giving money makes them uneasy, they should not do bad things with good intentions.

The sound of horse hooves and the shouts of men in the distance interrupted the conversation.

    "Father! Mother!"

Li Minglou looked over and saw a young man speeding on the road outside the village. He was wearing the soap robe of a government servant.

The man who shouted had already arrived at the entrance of the village and saw the soldiers of Li Minglou standing there. Although the soldiers were disguised as guards, they could hide it from the villagers, but their momentum could not hide it from the public servants.

The young man immediately pulled out the knife from his waist: "Wait"

The villagers of the old man didn¡¯t care about the money and pushed and ran to shout at the same time.

    "It's Xiaoqian!"

"Xiao Qian, don't be reckless, this is a passer-by."

"Xiao Qian, go back and take a quick look at your dad."

With the shouts of the villagers, the young man who was called Xiaoqian put away his sword, passed Yuanji and others towards the village with red eyes, and the horse seemed to fly up under the urging.

"It's good to be able to see his father."

"Old man Zhang is waiting for him while holding his breath."

"It's so pitiful that the whole family is gone."

    "Who is not pitiful"

There were voices, sighs, and cries, and they followed them towards the village. In the blink of an eye, Li Minglou and his group were left. Li Minglou glanced at Yuanji, and Yuanji turned around and followed.

Jin Jue thought for a while, then walked into the old man¡¯s kitchen and brought a bowl of hot soup: ¡°Miss, warm yourself up.¡±

The old man made a big pot of hot soup, and everyone got half a bowl. When Yuanji came over, everyone was drinking the soup.

¡°This village was robbed by bandits a few days ago,¡± he said.  (Remember the website address: www.hlnovel.com
