Zhao Yichen parked the car at the bottom of the fifteenth building.

At two o¡¯clock in the morning, almost all open-air parking spaces in the community were occupied.  There has been no sharp increase in owners in the past two years, but the number of private cars has skyrocketed.  He lives in the sixth building, and usually can only park his car in the fifteenth building, and then walk home around the central square of the community.

He started to turn off the car, but at this moment Zhao Yichen didn't want to get out of the car.

He was so tired that he put the back of his head on the car seat headrest and closed his eyes to take a nap.  In the first few years of being a criminal police officer, when taking turns to follow up with my colleagues, they were used to resting in the car.  At that time, the information network was not as developed as it is today, and news reports of people dying of suffocation due to sleeping in cars overnight were rare.  But even in the past five years, among these police officers, only a handful of them have actually died of suffocation in the car.  They are more likely to die in the line of duty, get cancer, get into car accidents, or go from sending someone to jail to being sent to jail, and then die at the gunpoint of a former colleague.

There are many ways for people to die. Until that moment, no one knows how they will die in the end.

Someone knocked on the car window, and Zhao Yichen woke up from his sleep.

Recently, there had been an increase in the number of window knocking and robbery cases in the middle of the night. He instinctively reached for the gun at his waist. From the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of a woman standing outside the car window. Her dyed yellow hair was messy and tied behind her head, and her face had flat features.  She looked featureless, for the age of an older housewife, but she was wearing a baby pink knitted jacket outside her pajamas, which was particularly conspicuous in the thick night.  This woman is his sister, Zhao Yiqing.

Zhao Yichen took out the car key and opened the door. He squeezed his brows as he got out of the car and faced the cool night breeze, then closed the door behind him: "Why are you out so late?"

"Isn't it because I haven't been seeing you since I didn't come back that something might happen to you?" Zhao Yiqing crossed his arms across his chest and said reproachfully, "The office phone can't be reached again."

When Zhao Yichen became the captain of the Criminal Police Brigade three years ago, the bureau assigned him a house in the new community.  He didn't want it and stubbornly lived in this old residential area.  Zhao Yiqing had nothing to do with him and couldn't bear to let him live alone, so after his son entered middle school, he bought the apartment above Zhao Yichen's house and moved the family there so that they could take care of each other.  Most of the personal phone calls Zhao Yichen's office has received over the years are from Zhao Yiqing: Will you go home for dinner during the holidays?  How come it's past midnight and you still haven't come back?  Is the new case difficult and dangerous?  Have you eaten on time and gone to bed?

????She took over all these things that a wife or parents should be concerned about.

Zhao Yichen pinched his eyebrows again and walked through the central square with her towards Building Six.  In fact, they could take a small road back, but that small road was dimly lit and a blind spot for surveillance, so Zhao Yichen would never let them take the small road.  At this moment, his brain was throbbing violently, but he did not show any irritability because of it. He only said: "Emergency police dispatch, there are only two people who responded to the call are still in the station, they probably didn't hear it."

"I saw all the police cars driving out." Zhao Yiqing raised a hand and gestured in the air, "What happened?"

Most family members of police officers are sensitive to the sound of police sirens.  Even though they were several blocks away, they could hear it clearly and their hearts tightened subconsciously.  This is an instinct, just like a mother who can't help but stop and look around when she hears her child crying, even if she knows it's not her child.

Zhao Yiqing is this kind of family member.  She would become anxious after hearing a police car roar past.  She is an ordinary woman who fears many things in her life: she is afraid of being abandoned when her parents are around; after her son is born, she is afraid that her son will get sick; she is afraid of everything and everyone that can take her son away from her; her younger brother  When she became a detective, she was afraid that someone would call her one day and ask her to claim his body.  Fortunately, his parents are gone now, and his son is still fine; his younger brother has become a criminal police captain, and his life is still fine.  The only thing she had to control was her worries and anxieties.

Zhao Yichen knew she had this problem.  It's not her fault. Their parents died young and she had to worry about a lot of things since she was a teenager, so Zhao Yichen was considerate of her and always comforted her as much as possible.

"The villagers of Jiulong Village attacked the police." The evening wind blew into his face. He took out a lighter from his pocket and lit a cigarette for himself.

"Kowloon Village? Is thata village where many people bribe abducted women and children?" Zhao Yiqing wrapped his coat tightly and asked in surprise, "How could you attack the police?"

It was almost the time when the temperature was at its lowest in the early morning, and the dim light from the street lamp seemed to have lost its temperature, pulling their shadows as they walked side by side, and they heard the mango trees on the roadside whimpering like they were begging in the wind.

"A relative searching and mutual aid association, I don't know where they got the news, saying that one of their parents had a kidnapped child in Kowloon Village." Zhao Yichen held a cigarette between his fingers, put one hand in his trouser pocket, and slowlyHe blew out a smoke ring and spoke in a calm tone, making it difficult to distinguish his emotions, "The couple sneaked into the village and stole the child. When they ran out, they were discovered by the villagers. The whole village chased them with sticks and knives and beat them. They happened to meet each other.  People from the mutual aid association came to help, and a fight broke out between the two groups. The police station there failed to mediate and was besieged by the villagers, so they had to notify the district criminal investigation detachment. The detachment fired shots to no avail, and asked us to mobilize police support."

"Sighthese villagers are the same. They have been here for decades and they are still like a group of bandits and hooligans." Zhao Yiqing sighed. She still remembered that such evil incidents had often happened since about twenty years ago.  Thinking that twenty years later, high-rise buildings in the city have been built and roads in the countryside have been smoothed, but some people have never changed with the world. "You went to the scene too? Were you not injured?"

Zhao Yichen shook his head, "It's okay."

They have reached the third floor of the sixth building.  Zhao Yichen lives on the third floor, and Zhao Yiqing's family lives on the fourth floor.  He took out the key and stood in front of his door to open the door. When he turned around, he found that she was still standing behind him, opening her mouth as if she wanted to say something, but she stopped talking.

Holding the door handle and opening the door, Zhao Yichen walked into the entrance hall, lowered his head and took off his shoes: "Go up and have a rest early. We have to take Alei to school tomorrow."

He was a little hesitant at first, but when he heard him speak like this again, Zhao Yiqing started to retreat.

After a few seconds, she breathed a sigh of relief and compromised: "Okay, you should rest quickly." After that, she turned around and walked upstairs.  But before taking two steps, she stopped again and turned around to look at him.

"Yichen, is that Jiulong Village Jiaying" As soon as she mentioned that name, she noticed that Zhao Yichen paused as he pulled the door handle to close the door, which made her reflexively stop speaking, and then continued  He changed his words and asked him cautiously: "I mean, are you still planning to continue looking for Jiaying?"

Zhao Yichen stood silently by the door, his right hand resting on the doorknob, half of his body still shrouded in the light of the corridor.  She stopped a few steps above him, unable to see his eyes that were blocked by eyelashes.

After about ten seconds, he replied calmly: "I'm used to it."

Are you used to being alone, or are you used to looking for her all the time?  Zhao Yiqing didn't have the heart to ask, so he could only sigh.

"You go in and rest," she waved her hand at him, "rest."

Then she turned around and went upstairs again, her steps staggering a little, as if she had aged ten years all of a sudden.

Zhao Yichen raised his head and watched her figure disappear around the corner of the corridor.  It wasn't until he heard her opening and closing the door that he closed it, locked it, fastened the security bolt, and turned around and walked into the house.

The floor-to-ceiling windows on the balcony are closed tightly, and there is a stainless steel security door outside, which is locked with a thick lock.  The heavy curtains blocked the light from the street lights outside, making the room dark.  He didn't turn on the light and walked directly to the sofa in the living room.  He has lived in this house for eleven years and can find his way with his eyes closed.

Sitting on the sofa, he closed his eyes and remained motionless in the darkness.  The room was very quiet, and you could hear the second hand of the wall clock ticking.

After a while, he opened his eyes.  There is an MP3 player with a badly worn case in the gap of the sofa. The headphone cord has been plugged in all year round and tightly wound around it.  He fished it out, untied the headphone cable, put the headphones into his ears, and turned on the switch.  The small rectangular screen lit up, becoming the only light in the darkness.

There is only one music file in the mp3, which is very short, only eleven seconds.

He clicked on it and heard the voice he was all too familiar with.

¡ª¡ª"I want to find my husband. His name is Zhao Yichen. He is a policeman from the Anti-Narcotics Group of the Criminal Investigation DetachmentCan you help me tell him¡ª¡ª"

It¡¯s a female voice.  He was panting, his voice was trembling, and he stopped suddenly.

The playback mode had already been set to a single loop, so after a brief noise, he heard her voice again.

¡ª¡ª"I want to find my husband. His name is Zhao Yichen. He is a policeman from the Anti-Narcotics Group of the Criminal Investigation DetachmentCan you help me tell him¡ª¡ª"

Zhao Yichen closed his eyes, raised his head and pressed the heavy back of his head against the back of the sofa.

He knows that it is now October 6, 2015, 3:23 in the morning.

On October 5, 2006, his wife Hu Jiaying dialed the police phone number, but the call suddenly ended eleven seconds into the call.  Hu Jiaying has disappeared since then.

That day, Zhao Yichen was still undercover under the nose of the drug lord.  The recording, a copy of the original police call, was given to him by his colleagues two days later.

Nine years later, he has listened to this recording countless times.  He knew every pause, every tremble, the length of every syllable in her words by heart.  But he still couldn't find her.

What he lost was not just Hu Jiaying, his beloved wife.

Everyone knows that she was six months pregnant before she disappeared.

    He also lost their child.
