    chapter 2

Chen Wan returned to her home and first threw Grandma Li's sheets and quilt cover into the washing machine.  Grandma Li has bad eyesight and is old and frail. She has developed the habit of changing the bedding every half a month, washing it and then sending it back.  Xiaoyu moved a small table to do her homework in the yard. As a sophomore in high school, she was already taller than her. She sat on a pony with her long legs blocking half of the road.

She went over and kicked off his long legs, "Get out of the way."

The boy didn¡¯t even raise his head, he just retracted his legs, let her go and straightened them again.

¡°It¡¯s getting cold, and you¡¯ll catch a cold if you sit outside.¡±

    "The back room is stuffy."

Since we opened the snack bar in front of us, the house has become really crowded.  There are three small rooms, one is barely a living room, one is where her uncle and aunt live, and the other is separated by a plywood board in the middle. There are small beds inside and outside where she and her cousin sleep. It is so narrow that there is not even a desk.  Can't put it down.

"Why didn't you do your homework last night? You put it off until today." Xiaoyu has a different personality from her. Her habit is to do her homework no matter how late it is, so that she can sleep peacefully.

"It was so noisy last night. When I walked out to the street, I could hear people shouting and drinking. After I left, the smell of alcohol still lingered in the room." Xiaoyu raised his head, folded his hands and stretched.  "When will I be able to get out of the sea of ??suffering? I'm so depressed. I have to do questions every day." After thinking about it, he said enviously, "Sister, you are so good. You have only half a year left to achieve success. Brother Zheng is so excited to wait."  .¡±

"Let's go. Fang Cunzheng has nothing to do with me. You are talking nonsense. If your uncle hears it, everyone will look bad. Also, don't think that going to college in the future will mean that the curse is loosened. You are the only male in our family.  My son, my uncle and aunt still hope that you can revitalize the family business in the future." She hung the clothes she had washed earlier on the drawstring in the yard to dry one by one.

    Xiaoyu sneered.

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????OUT  The uncle was not very wordy, but Chen Wan knew that his uncle had high hopes.  In his second year of high school, his homework was even tighter and he was under a lot of pressure.  Chen Wan saw this and always had deep sympathy for Xiaoyu. Sometimes when he would sneak out to play ball, she would help cover up in front of her aunt.

¡°Are you still going to play ball today?¡±

"Yes. I'll go after lunch." Xiaoyu flipped the pen on his five fingers while still staring at the textbook on the small table.  He would play basketball for two hours every Sunday afternoon. Zhuque Alley was overcrowded and there were no venues for activities. They always went to the rare open space at the entrance of Chunyang Temple to play.

After drying the clothes, I heard a noise in front of me, and I didn¡¯t know what was going on.  When I walked out, I saw that they were all nearby neighbors, and all the Eight Immortals tables in the store were full.  There were also a few strangers, and when she stared at them, one of them was the person she met in the morning.  The man was eating bean curd, his movements were very slow and gentle, but when he caught her gaze, his eyes were not gentle at all, and he actually smiled at her with a grin on his face.

He was sitting outside, facing the light, and his white teeth seemed to flash in the sunlight. Chen Wan didn't know why she suddenly thought of the carnivores on the African savannah in the animal world.  She was annoyed. Although she was used to being looked at, and had often been teased by gangsters from Zhuque Lane in the past, no one's eyes had ever been as impolite as his, as if they were trying to penetrate her clothes.

With ice on her face, she pretended not to care and glanced at him, then turned to her uncle, only to hear the neighbors talking about the demolition.

??Zhuque Lane was planned for demolition many years ago. There is a huge black circle on the white wall of every yard with the word "DEMOLITION" written in the middle.  It's just that the thunder is loud and the rain is light, and there is no movement after so many years.  However, it seems to have begun to take action recently. There have been surveying technicians stationed on West Street some time ago.

There are two news gathering places in Zhuque Lane. One is the open space at the entrance of Chunyang Temple, where most of the elderly people from the neighborhood gather with their children to chat. The other is Chen Wan's small shop.

The history of the Gong family can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty. It is said that Chen Wan's great-great-grandfather was the imperial cook in the palace. The old man who would make trouble at that time escaped by taking the opportunity, and then lived in Zhuque Lane to marry and have children for several generations.  Therefore, the Gong family can be regarded as the most prestigious family in the neighborhood, and Chen Wan's uncle Gong Ziqiang is also a down-to-earth person. He doesn't talk much but is very insightful. Like his aunt, he is kind-hearted. If anyone needs help,  As long as you find them, help them if you can without saying a word.

We have been neighbors nearby for many years, and we have developed the habit of coming to Chen Wan's house to say hello whenever there is something important to discuss.

Things seem to be very serious this timeThe crowd was furious, and the necks of those who spoke loudly turned red. They seemed extremely angry.  Aunt Liu's lover and uncle were former workers in the bearing factory. They also blushed and said in a rough voice, "It used to be about compensation. At that time, I thought it would be good to get some money. At most, I could just rent a house to live in.  There is no better place to live than next to this smelly ditch. But go to West Street and ask, what is the land price offered by the government? One thousand and five thousand! What is the house price outside? Ordinary houses cost four to five thousand!!  It¡¯s not enough for one-third! How many days can we eat and drink with that little money? What will we do when we run out? Sleep on the street with our wife and children?¡±

His words attracted a chorus of echoes, and someone else said, ¡°I heard there are resettlement houses.¡±

The other one immediately took the call, "Where is the resettlement house? Go and ask, it's almost to the end of Chengguan Town. There is no village in front of you, no store in the back, you have to ride a bicycle for two hours to go to work, and then ride a bicycle for another two hours to come back at night?"

As soon as he said this, everyone agreed.  Then someone else started talking about the gossip, which they heard from my wife¡¯s aunt¡¯s brother-in-law¡¯s cousin¡¯s uncle¡¯s eldest daughter¡¯s boyfriend¡¯s father, about collusion between the government and real estate developers, and what kind of deal was being done behind the scenes.  All of them seem true and false, and it¡¯s hard to tell apart like a fog.

The whole room was filled with indignation, even bringing up what happened during the renovation of Shanghai Road three years ago.

Chen Wan glanced at her uncle, who was sitting silently in the middle with a solemn expression.  He accidentally looked at the carnivore again. He was listening to the discussions in the room at leisure, with a sarcastic smile on his lips. There was still more than half of the bowl of bean curd, and it seemed that he was determined to finish the show.

After nearly an hour of discussion, the final result was that everyone on the east side of Zhuque Lane should stick together and not let others take advantage of them.  Then someone asked, "What if it is demolished by force?"

The shop that was so noisy just a second ago that the roof was about to be lifted suddenly became quiet. No one spoke anymore. Some people had depressed expressions, some were sad, and some were breathing heavily with their necks straightened. They all recalled the scene during the demolition on Shanghai Road.  .  There is no room for personal interests to survive in front of the state machine.

"It depends on the situation. We haven't reached that point yet." The uncle was silent for so long before finally speaking.

Everybody was a little disenchanted, and one by one they bowed their heads and left.

"Uncle, you and your aunt should go in and have a rest. It seems that there is no business for lunch today." It was only after ten o'clock, and there was still some time before the lunch market.

Usually, Gong Ziqiang gets up at around four o'clock every morning and goes to Chunyang Temple to fetch well water and grind beans. He was so busy yesterday that he was catching up on sleep at this time, but he fell asleep early.  He coaxed his sad-faced wife to go in, then turned back and sat down, smoking a cigarette with her head down.

Chen Wan felt even more miserable. If Shanghai Road hadn't been renovated that year, her father wouldn't have Now history is going to repeat itself again?

She stood leaning against the wall in a daze, biting her lower lip tightly. She thought she could live such a poor but stable life She hoped that this place would not be demolished. After she found a home again and integrated into the life here, Qian Qian  Don't let anything happen to disturb her peace again.

"Is there anything else to eat?"

Only then did she realize that the man was still sitting where he was, and the bowl was finally empty.

¡°It¡¯s not lunch time yet, but we have noodles, beef noodles.¡±

He thought for a moment and nodded.  "The bean curd is delicious. Let's have a bowl of noodles."

Do you need to say more?  The bean curd is made from the water from the thousand-year-old well that my uncle goes to Chunyang Temple every morning to pick out.  "Would you like meat sauce? Two pieces of clear soup noodles and three and a half yuan with meat sauce."

    "Which one is delicious?"

"They are all delicious. The expensive ones are better." She regretted a little. Judging from his dress, he should have said five yuan.

    The man nodded again.

She put aside the bitterness that had been lingering in her heart, uncovered the lid of the pot, took out the bowl and lighted the ingredients.

Gong¡¯s beef noodles are delicious, who in Zhuque Lane doesn¡¯t know that?  The key lies in the soup base. The beef bone soup simmered over low heat is golden and translucent in color. The clear soup noodles are just enough flavor. The beef sauce is made from fine tenderloin minced into powder and marinated with special ingredients.

When he brought it over, the man raised his eyebrows when he saw the color of the soup in the bowl.  I was even more surprised when I tasted a selection. I probably didn't expect such a humble shop to have such delicious products.  After a while, the sky appeared at the bottom of the bowl, and there were still some unfinished thoughts.

After eating, he still didn't leave. He looked up at the furnishings in the store and then looked at the Qingshui River outside the house.  Chen Wan ignored him and just picked the vegetables in front of her, thinking about something on her mind. The more she thought about it, the more she thought about it, and the more worried she became. She didn't even know when that person left.  (Remember the website address: www.hlnovel.com
