    "Beep"

The phone only rang once before someone picked it up, and a familiar voice came from over there.

    "Is it Xiaoman?"

"Mom" Xiaoman raised his head and covered the receiver with one hand to prevent his nasal voice from reaching the other side of the phone.

"It's really Xiaoman." Gu's mother said to the phone, probably for Gu's father.

"Mom, what have you been doing lately"

"Xiao Man, how are you doing lately? I heard from someone at the school that O University came directly to pick up your files before, and they didn't follow the Education Bureau's procedures. Your father and I wanted to ask but we couldn't contact you. We were worried.  Dead." Gu's mother said with a hint of sobs in her voice.

    "I'm sorry, Mom."

"No, no. My Xiaoman has done nothing wrong, and has nothing to be sorry for." There was a sniffling sound from the other side.  "Xiao Man, how are you doing lately? Have you been able to contact your family?" Gu's mother asked expectantly.

"Not yet" Xiao Man tightened the microphone in his hand.  She can't contact the outside world casually yet, and even this phone call is against the regulations.

"It's not possible yet" Mother Gu's voice was a little low.

"Ask how Xiaoman is doing." Father Gu urged behind him.

"Yes, yes. Xiaoman, how are you eating there, how are you living there, how are you getting along with other people, are you used to it?" Mother Gu asked a series of questions.

Xiaoman raised his hand, looked at his arm that he could grab with one hand, and replied: "They are all very good. The master chef in the cafeteria is very good at his craftsmanship, and he is also very kind. The taste is no different from that at home, I feel that I have lost my temper these days.  They’ve gained a lot of weight.”

"It's better to be fatter. You were too thin before." Gu's mother felt relieved when she heard Xiaoman's complaint, and then continued: "Don't starve yourself just to look good. You work so hard every day, and  He’s still growing!”

"I know. Maybe next time we meet, I'm so fat that you won't even recognize me."

"How come we can't recognize you? Mom can recognize you no matter what you look like. What are the conditions like where you live there? Do you sleep well?" Gu's mother asked again.

"It's pretty good. It's just a dormitory, almost like a school dormitory."

"That's good. By the way, are you short of money?"

"There is no shortage, no shortage, there is no place to spend money here, everything is ready-made. I still have a salary, but I don't know how to spend the money."

"Buy whatever you need, and don't skimp. If your salary is gone, just borrow some from the people next to you. When you can make a phone call, call us and we will remit it to you and pay it back to you."  Mother explained uneasily.

"Don't worry." Xiao Man glanced at the clock in the shop and said reluctantly: "Mom and Dad, I'm going back. I'll call you next time I have a chance."

"Okay, go and do your work."

After Mother Gu finished speaking, neither party spoke again, but no one hung up the phone.  Xiaoman listened to his mother's breathing in the receiver, and finally gritted his teeth and put the phone back in his hand.

After hanging up the phone, Xiaoman squatted on the ground uncomfortably and buried his head in his arms.  As she said to Teacher Zhao before, she can endure the hardship and fatigue now because they are so insignificant compared to the sense of achievement and satisfaction she finally gained from her hard work.  But sometimes she still feels sad and homesick.

Xiao Man is a little confused. Is this the price of caring?  She had never felt this warmth in her previous life, and she had never experienced such longing.

The owner of the small shop saw that there was no sound on the phone and no one was there. He came over and took a look and saw Xiaoman squatting next to him.  He shook his head and sighed softly.

Mao Mao wiped his eyes and stood up, handing the money for the phone call to the boss.  Seeing that she was young, the boss wanted to comfort her, but after thinking for a long time, he finally said nothing.

"Boss, if someone asks me about my phone call later, can you just say that I made a call?" Xiaoman asked.

When the boss heard this, he looked her up and down suspiciously and nodded.

"Thank you." Xiaoman bowed to the boss.

The boss waved his hand and told her not to take it to heart.

Xiaoman adjusted his mood and asked the boss about the place selling box lunches at the entrance of the hospital.

There are three people on Xiaoman’s side, as well as the driver from the base and a young soldier who came with them, a total of five.  Except for Xiao Man, they were all young and strong men. Xiao Man did the math and bought seven copies.??.  "You two didn't install the instrument, and the wind wasn't blown by you two. The base over there hasn't come to a conclusion yet, so you two don't have to be so busy blaming yourselves."

Zhang Lei and Xiao Man looked at each other, lowered their heads and said no more.

"Zhang Lei, I'm letting you stay in the hospital this time because I'm afraid I'll have to go out soon. None of us are at the institute, and we're worried that others won't be able to take care of you." Teacher Zhao explained.

"Teacher, where are you going this time?" Zhang Lei asked curiously.

Teacher Zhao took a look around and confirmed that there were only three of them in the room.  He opened his mouth and spit out two words silently: border.

Xiaoman’s eyes widened in disbelief, and he immediately remembered the war that was about to break out soon.  I don't know if their trip to the border has anything to do with the border war that is about to break out.

Zhang Lei was surprised at first, and then nodded.

"Then I can't accompany you this time"

Teacher Zhao waved his hand, "Wang Shan and Xiao Man are still here, just take good care of yourself."

"Yes, senior brother, you need to take good care of your injuries, eat enough food, and let your bones grow quickly. With me and senior brother Wang Shan taking care of the teacher, you don't have to worry about us." Xiao Man assured him.

“It’s not only hard over there, but also dangerous. You have to not only take good care of the teacher, but also yourself when you go out this time.”

"Senior brother, don't worry." Xiaoman nodded, "You also have to take care of yourself." (Remember this website's website address: www.hlnovel.com
