The plane flew for more than an hour. Zhang Xian heard the sound of shelling from far and near. Looking down, he saw a long river running through the towering mountains on both sides like a jade belt, running towards the south. Pan Fei told him that that was Yunnan.  West Nujiang River.

The Nu River, together with the Jinsha River and the Lancang River, originates from the Tanggula Mountains in the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It cuts across the mountains from north to south with the other two rivers, forming the famous spectacle of three parallel rivers. The Jinsha River eventually turns eastward to become the Yangtze River; the Lancang River flows to the southeast.  It became the Mekong River; but the Nu River stubbornly headed south and became the Salween River.  The Nu River descends from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and runs between Gaoligong Mountain and Biluo Snow Mountain. The mountains on both sides of the river are mostly over 3,000 meters above sea level, forming the Nu River Grand Canyon, the third largest in the world.  The Nu River is at the end of the canyon near Baoshan, which is the hub of the Burma Highway. There is a Huitong Bridge built on the Nu River, which is the throat of east-west traffic.  At this time, the Huitong Bridge had been blown up, and the steel cables of the bridge were still hanging there and fell into the river. The Chinese army built defenses on the east bank, hoping to use the natural danger of the Nu River to block the Japanese from advancing eastward.

The sound of gunfire came from the shore of the Nu River.

The plane was swooping down. Zhang Xian looked down from the window and saw artillery fire on both sides of the Nu River. The Japanese troops on the west bank were densely packed on the river beach like locusts. There were three pontoon bridges erected to the east bank. Among them were  One was almost reaching the east bank. In the fast-flowing river, these Japanese soldiers rowed forward desperately, completely ignoring the national troops and their artillery fire on the east bank.  Although the artillery fire on the east bank was fierce, it could not stop the enemy's forward speed.

"Ready!" Zhang Ren shouted from the front.

Everyone immediately got up. Although he had participated in many battles, Zhang Xian was still extremely nervous at this time. He hugged the heavy machine gun tightly and stared at the front and bottom, waiting for an order.

The bomber roared and dived from high altitude, rushing straight into the narrow valley.  In this valley, there are huge rocks, big trees, and wild vines everywhere, and the space is very small. If you are not careful, you may hit somewhere, and even a slight deviation may cause a tragedy of machine destruction and death.  Looking at the abrupt rocks on both sides, which seemed to be very close at hand, Zhang Xian broke out in a cold sweat, but finally managed to escape from the neck and reached the surface of the Nu River without any danger.  Zhang Xian let out a sigh of relief and applauded his brother's superb driving skills.

"Here we go, drop the bomb!" Zhang Ren ordered.

The bombardier agreed and opened the door of the magazine. The bomb fell directly on the river and landed on the pontoon bridge. Only a rumble of explosions could be heard from behind, and protrusions rose up on the river.  The water column, which was about to reach the other side of the pontoon bridge, broke from it. The river water immediately washed away the scattered boat and its wooden planks, and it reached the downstream in the blink of an eye.

¡°Oh!¡± There was a burst of cheers in the cabin, as if they had already seen the victory.

"Don't be too happy too soon!" Zhang Ren warned them: "The Japanese are still building bridges!"

While they were talking, everyone suddenly felt the fuselage shake, and a cannonball passed by the wing.

"No! The Japanese have anti-aircraft guns!" Pan Fei shouted.

Zhang Ren also became nervous and pulled up the control stick. The plane climbed up and rocked back and forth while dodging enemy shells.

Zhang Xian started to swim across rivers and seas again, but he held it back and prevented himself from vomiting out again.  Fortunately, he was tied to the horizontal tube above, so even if his body could not maintain balance, he would not fall.

The plane finally climbed to an altitude of three thousand meters, escaped the threat of anti-aircraft guns, and was preparing to dive for the second time to drop bombs. At this time, machine gunner Yu Yu suddenly shouted: "Zhang Ren, the Japanese plane!"

Zhang Xian couldn't help but look back. From the left rear he saw, he saw two Japanese Zero fighter jets already appearing in his field of vision.

"There are five!" Xiao Feng also shouted nervously.

"Where did this damn Mike go?" Pan Fei cursed bitterly, already extremely nervous.

Zhang Xian also knew the danger. Although he was in the army, he still knew this common sense.  If a bomber is not escorted by fighter jets and encounters an enemy fighter jet, it will have no choice but to wait for death, not to mention that the enemy is flying a Zero fighter jet.  Whether in terms of speed, flexibility, or height, the B-17 heavy bomber is no match for the Zero fighter. In a few minutes, the enemy will definitely be able to surpass them and shoot them down.  And the only thing they can resist their opponents is those heavy machine guns.

"Shark, shark, do you hear that? The enemy appears behind our aircraft, asking for support!" Zhang Ren called Mike in English, and Mike's answer came from there: "I'm above you, you climb higher  !¡±

The bomber heads upward again. He lay prone on his post, still holding his beloved machine gun, leaning his head on it, blood flowing all over the floor.  A bullet penetrated the fuselage and hit his head. He didn't even leave a word, and just died amidst everyone's cheers.

"Less than!" Pan Fei was almost wailing, and ran over, ignoring the blood all over his body, and hugged him in his arms.

"I can't get rid of him!" Zhang Ren shouted from the front.

The sound of the cannons behind them was still rattling, and the enemy drove their Zero fighter jets to bite them hard while firing at them wildly.

Pan Fei put Xiaoyu down on the ground, picked up the heavy machine gun, took Xiaoyu's place, and also took revenge crazily on the enemy plane behind him.  However, before a few rounds of bullets were fired, his leg suddenly hurt. The enemy's bullets had already hit him.  He gritted his teeth and started shooting again.

"Shark! Shark! Where are you? We were bitten by an enemy plane!" Zhang Ren called to Mike loudly.

¡°Dive down, into the valley!¡± Mike¡¯s reply came.

Zhang Ren pushed down the control stick, and the plane dived downwards.  The enemy's fighter planes also swooped down, still holding them tightly.

"Mike and the others are in front!" Xiao Feng shouted. Apparently Mike and Jesse had killed the two chasing enemies just now and were flying back towards them.

And the Japanese fighter also spotted the fighter coming from the opposite direction. He might have been scared because his companions did not come back. He stopped chasing, hesitated, turned around, and escaped.

Seeing the reinforcements arriving and the enemy planes escaping, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Pan Fei sat down on the ground. Only then did he feel the severe pain in his legs and couldn't help but yell.

    *******************

Seeing Xiao Feng bandaging Pan Fei's wound, Zhang Xian felt that a long time had passed just now. Looking at his watch again, it was only a few minutes since the bombing of the enemy's pontoon bridge.  .  But just in these few minutes, so many changes happened: Yu Yu, who was lively and cute just now, has passed away in the sky, and Pan Fei was also seriously injured. He was the first person to get on the plane who was still dizzy just now.  , also became a real aircraft gunner, and even shot down a Japanese fighter jet.

"Continue bombing!" This is Zhang Ren's order. There are still two pontoon bridges built by the enemy on the Nu River and are extending to the east bank.

So, the bombers once again appeared over the valley, once again passed by the surface of the Nu River, once again dropped a series of bombs, and once again accurately destroyed the two pontoon bridges being built, and once again the river surface rose.  The water column rising into the sky was just a blink of an eye, and the enemy's pontoon bridge was washed away by the rushing river without a trace.

The enemy's anti-aircraft anti-aircraft guns kept turning at angles and firing into the sky, but no shells ever hit the fuselage again. On the contrary, Zhang Xian relied on his keen eyesight and quick movements to shoot the aircraft into the sky.  When the plane passed by the river valley, it accurately hit the enemy's gunner. The gunner screamed and fell into the river. Before others could react, he was washed away.

The plane made a third dive, but this time it was not to blow up the bridge. The bombardier dropped the bombs into the Japanese soldiers gathered on the river beach. Zhang Xian watched the bombs explode among the Japanese soldiers, even though they were flesh and blood.  The flying was cruel, but he felt an indescribable pleasure, as if a huge boulder stuck in his heart had been blown into pieces by the bomb, and he felt indescribably comfortable and ventilated.

Zhang Ren finally decided to return because all the bombs on the plane had been discharged. He had to go back. His mission had been completed long ago, and it was completed very beautifully. This bombing could buy the national army at least three months.  In these three months, it was impossible for the Japanese to raise so many ships and supplies, and it was impossible to organize another forced crossing operation on such a scale.

Just like when it came, the plane flew smoothly for another hour and returned to Wujiaba Airport in Kunming smoothly. When they got off the plane, they were greeted by the top leader of the aviation team, but Zhang Xian saw  The younger brother was not happy at all. When Yu Yu's body was carried off the plane, he saw his younger brother Zhang Ren crying sadly!  (Remember the website address: www.hlnovel.com
