    Chapter 17

Garo City is lively in the evening.  Especially in the streets near the military garrison, shops are open as usual and pedestrians are coming and going.  Children playing football on the street don't have to worry about an accident the next second.

Song Ran followed Li Zan as he walked back. The street was noisy, but they didn't speak much along the way.

Since he didn¡¯t speak, she couldn¡¯t figure out what he was thinking, so she simply kept silent.

It¡¯s not that Li Zan was in a bad mood, but that he was really tired after spending a whole day.

Passing by a local restaurant, the aroma of barbecue filled the air.

Li Zan turned to her and asked, "Are you hungry?"

Song Ran originally planned to go back to his residence to eat, but asked: "Are you hungry?"

    "Um."

    ¡°¡Then let¡¯s eat here.¡±

There were many customers in the restaurant, but most of them were peacekeepers stationed nearby. Suddenly a female foreigner walked in, and the soldiers glanced at Song Ran intentionally or unintentionally.

Li Zan noticed something and said softly: "If you feel uncomfortable, let's change places."

Song Ran didn¡¯t want to bother and said, ¡°No need. I¡¯m not a beauty, there¡¯s nothing interesting to see. Besides, this barbecue smells very good.¡±

Li Zan was afraid that she would be uncomfortable, so he chose the outermost table near the street.  The two ordered the special barbecue, flatbread and boiled beans.  While waiting for the food to be served, Li Zan suddenly smiled and said, "Why isn't she a beauty?"

"I still know myself." Song Ran whispered, seeing him smiling and knowing that he was in a good mood, she asked, "There won't be any problems over there, right?"

    "Which way?"

Song Ran pointed behind him with his thumb - the direction of the US military station.

"No problem." Li Zan said, "It's just a matter of defeating this kind of person."

Song Ran didn¡¯t expect him to say such a thing and couldn¡¯t help laughing.

    "why are you laughing?"

    "No." She shook her head.

While talking, the boss served the cut barbecue noodles and boiled beans, plus a small basin of water for washing hands.

Li Zan pointed to the small aluminum basin with his chin and said, "Wash it first." He raised his hand and said, "When I put my hand down, the water will turn black."

"Oh." Song Ran dipped his hand in the water and rubbed it twice.

Li Zan looked at it, and for the first time he noticed that a girl¡¯s hands were so delicate, white, tender, and small; he looked at them for a long time, and then quietly looked away.

Soon, Song Ran pushed the aluminum basin to him. After washing his hands, he wiped his face casually.

??Wrap barbecued meat in dough and garnish with boiled beans for a unique taste.  Song Ran ate four burritos and a bowl of boiled beans in one go, and quickly became full.

I don¡¯t know if it was a habit brought out from the military camp, but Li Zan was very quiet and serious when eating, and did not talk or chat.  When rolling the meat, place the barbecue slices neatly on the dough, and then stack the layers of the dough like a quilt.  Only then did it come to my mouth.

Song Ran couldn't help laughing, but she didn't bother him.

A peacekeeper passed by on the street, throwing an apple in his hand.  Song Ran saw it and said casually: "Apples here are super expensive."

Li Zan was taking a bite of the pancake, pursed his lips and looked up, seeing the man throwing the apple and walking away.  He asked: "Do you like apples?"

"It's not bad." Song Ran said, "But there are no other fruits in Garo."

After finishing the meal, the bill was paid by Li Zan.

Song Ran was embarrassed and said, "Let's aa?"

Li Zan looked at her: "Reporter Song, don't be too polite."

    Song Ran didn¡¯t insist anymore.

On the way back, she confirmed: "Benjamin won't trouble you next time, right?"

    "Won't."

In the next few days, as Li Zan said, none of the soldiers in the joint combat team gave him any more trouble, and even changed their attitude towards him.  Especially after seeing his ability to dispose of bombs, Benjamin chatted and joked with him whenever he could.

Song Ran remembered Benjamin¡¯s ridicule when she first met him and his words ¡°see you¡± afterwards. She realized belatedly that Benjamin was someone who deserved abuse.

After the training session, Song Ran sent the edited video to Luo Zhan for review as usual.  This documentary will not be broadcast on Liangcheng Satellite TV, but will be broadcast directly on the national news channel and military channel.

The video goes from Li Zan being "specially treated" in the early stage of participating in the training to integrating with soldiers from various countries in the later stage.  Song Ran didn't record the fight, but the two shoulder collisions with Benjamin were recorded.  At the end of the story, a team consisting of bomb disposal soldiers, snipers, air defenseWhen the bullet pierced the back seat, Song Ran didn't even realize that something was flying in the car.

"Bang!" A hole was made in the telephone pole outside the window, and gray stones flew into the air. Only then did Song Ran realize that the bullet had flown between the two car windows.

She immediately lowered her body and stepped on the accelerator.  I knew something was wrong. I had mistakenly entered a frontal combat zone.

The streets were empty and bullets were flying, hitting the ground and walls one after another.

Since there is a fight, one side is always good.  She is a foreign civilian, and government troops will definitely save her.

While my mind was running at high speed, my hands opened the camera cover mechanically and accurately, adjusted the program, and started recording.

There were gunshots everywhere, and the front hood of the car was hit several times.  If you don't show your neutral identity, you will be dead.

    Song Ran shouted: "Help!"

There was a momentary ceasefire, and both sides were making judgments.

A few seconds later, they suddenly broke out and attacked with full firepower. This time, they all avoided Song Ran's vehicle. The gunmen rushed out from the windows of the building, alleys, and bunkers.

Both parties are here to rob people!  To live!

Song Ran saw clearly in a moment that there were no government troops.  It's rebels and terrorist organizations!  They are all here to take hostages!

    It¡¯s over.

She rolled out of the car and rushed to the empty alley beside the road.  Two rebels jumped from the second-floor window, one aimed his gun and ordered her to surrender.

"Bang" a gunshot sounded, Song Ran screamed and covered her head, but the rebel fell in front of her, blood pouring from her temples.  The other person immediately lowered himself and rushed towards Song Ran.

"Bang!" The second rebel was killed, and blood sprayed on Song Ran's face.

Song Ran was extremely frightened and didn¡¯t know where the two shots came from.

A group of men with high nose bridges and deep eye sockets appeared on the opposite street. One of them rushed over, jumped onto Song Ran's car, stepped on the roof of the car, and jumped off towards her.  The strong figure covered the dazzling white light in the sky.

Song Ran saw clearly the symbol on his body: a terrorist organization!

She grabbed the camera and got up and ran. When she turned around, she saw a pair of bloodthirsty eyes on the man's twisted face.

She rushed into the alley like crazy, her hair disheveled, covered in dust and blood and sweat.

Behind him, the terrorist members¡¯ voices were deep and rising, shouting a string of foreign languages ??arrogantly; before the words finished, evil responses from a group of men came from buildings, bunkers, street corners, shops, and various places.

Song Ran was like a deer breaking into a hunting circle, with wild wolves swarming in from all directions.

She got into the alley and ran wildly.  The people behind them laughed, shouted in the local language, and fired their guns into the sky.  Leaves, branches, sand and gravel fell in a rustling way.

She ran as hard as she could, constantly diving into the winding alleys.  Suddenly a hand stretched out and pulled her into a hug.  Song Ran screamed, punched the man's jaw, and struggled to push him away.  She stepped into the pit, twisted her feet and fell to the ground, using her hands and feet to back away as hard as she could.

The man quickly approached her, his figure instantly blocking the slanting sunlight.

A pair of black military boots came into Song Ran's sight. The gray-green trousers were tied tightly into the boots.

But she had no time to take a closer look, so she rolled over and ran away.  The man stepped forward, picked her up and held her in his arms, covering her mouth with one hand.

Song Ran whimpered in fear and kicked and beat him desperately.

He lifted her helmet and shouted in a low voice: "Don't move!"

Song Ran was startled and raised her eyes.

His black eyes were shining brightly, he pulled off the mask from his face and said in a very low voice: "It's me." (Remember this website's website address: www.hlnovel.com
