741. A brutal siege

    When Cao Jun came to Tongguan City, their battle formations were neatly arranged. Behind them, there were complete siege equipment such as rams, siege engines, and ladders, which should have been brought by Hangu Pass.

    Because the design of the city wall of Tongguan is different from that of ordinary cities, its city wall is higher than half of the city. The wells designed by Cao Cao are designed according to the wells used to attack ordinary cities, and cannot form an absolute height for Tongguan.  Taking advantage of the archer's commanding strike advantage, he won't gain much advantage.

    Therefore, even if Cao Cao sent five wells and nearly 200 archers in total, Cao Cao's army would not be able to gain any advantage in the confrontation with the Black Scale Army.

    Instead, because he got too close, a black-scale military trebuchet killed a well.  Fortunately, the well was covered with cowhide to prevent fire. Otherwise, if they were so close, the Black Scale Army would only need a rocket to destroy the well.

    The infantry following behind began to climb up the ladder. The Black Scale Army hiding behind the battlements had to lean out from under the cover of shields to block Cao's army.

    Because there was no shield cover, and Cao Jun¡¯s archers were shooting from the opposite side of the well, the Black Scale Army began to suffer casualties. Many people were hit by arrows and fell from the city wall.

    However, they paid casualties and gained nothing. All the ladders erected by Cao Jun were pushed away by them or simply smashed with stones.

    Without the ladder, Cao Jun could only look dryly from below, and then he was shot down by a hail of arrows from the Black Scale Army above. He suffered heavy casualties and had to retreat in embarrassment.

    Cao Hong was furious. The first attack failed like this. What was even more hateful was that Cao Jun¡¯s?The ladders are all left under the city wall, and there are still a few that are intact and can be used as long as they are erected again.  But Cao Jun did not do this and retreated in a hurry.

    Such a profligate behavior made Cao Hong jump with anger. Cao Hong was not a good-tempered person to begin with. In anger, he ordered his team to kill more than a dozen soldiers who were the first to retreat, including several junior generals.

    After killing the deserters, Cao Hong was not angry and prepared to continue the attack, but Cao Cao ordered to postpone the attack because it was getting late.
