    When she was fourteen years old, Lan Xi's father got married with a widow in his factory. The two hit it off and formed a new family regardless of her objection.  That family does not include Lan Xi, nor Liu Chengyi.

    That summer, Lan Xi witnessed Liu Chengyi hitting her father's head with a stone, and was caught and beaten by her father.  But Liu Chengyi's mother rushed out and cried to Liu Chengyi, "Go away, just treat me as my mother!"
