    Dreams are not

According to a report from People.cn: "Both or one of the parents went out to work, which gave birth to a special group of rural children in China - 'left-behind children'. The number has reached more than 58 million, of which more than 40 million are under the age of 14.  The common problems among this group are lack of education, help in life, psychological imbalance, loss of family affection, loss of security and other problems, which have attracted more and more attention from all walks of life in China According to the "National Left-behind Children in Rural Areas" issued by the China Women's Federation  "Status Research Report" data show that in most provinces, there are more rural left-behind boys than rural left-behind girls. Among all rural left-behind children, boys account for 53.71% and girls account for 46.29%.

The 14-year-old Zhou Xin, the protagonist in the novel "Snow Robe" by the female writer and poet Xili, is one of these unfortunate left-behind children. His parents both work in Guangdong.  In rural Guizhou, most adults go to Guangdong to work.  Middle-aged people in their 40s and 50s, young people in their 17th and 18th years, and left-behind children in rural areas are all primary and middle school students.  The students are not eager to study. Their biggest wish is to finish junior high school as soon as possible and go to work in Guangdong after getting their diploma.  The goal is simply to keep kids in school until they graduate from middle school.  Because there is no parental guardianship, the education of rural children is basically abandoned. It can be said that the development of Chinese cities is at the expense of several generations of rural people. Working has ruined the future and happiness of Chinese rural areas. What Chinese farmers gain by working  Most of the meager income is used to build slum-like brick houses (these brick houses did not fundamentally improve the living problems in the countryside, but instead occupied a lot of cultivated land), not for children to receive a good education;  , A large area of ??rural land has been abandoned; because of working, the crime rate of rural teenagers has remained high, and the reality of robbery, murder, and entering the underworld is very common.

?Problem boy Zhao Gui bullied Zhou Xin. Zhou Xin overthrew Zhao Gui to the ground during the resistance, with blood pouring out from his head. Zhou Xin thought he had killed someone, so he ran away from school and went all the way south to Guangdong to find his father.  While wandering all the way to Guangdong, Zhou Xin was arrested by the bad guys and forced to steal, so he met some friends: Jacques, Ahuang, Axing, Beichuan Jacques' father was busy with love and had no time.  Don't care about him, Ah Huang's parents are doing business in other places, and they don't care about him. Ah Xing wants to sell newspapers at a young age, Bei Chuan is a street child, and they are all unfortunate people without the love of their parents.  These "left-behind children" in rural and urban areas have gone astray and brought social problems.  They didn't have the childhood they should have been loved by their fathers, they didn't get a good education, they moved away from normal families and schools step by step, and lived at the bottom of the city.

"Snow Robe" focuses on left-behind children, but it is a growth novel.  The most depressing and desperate period in a person's life is not after adulthood, but during adolescence. During this critical period of adolescence, people are most likely to despair, commit suicide, and become distorted Jacques belongs to the type who is very curious about the bottom and rebels against his parents, and Ah Huang belongs to the  The type who gives up on himself, Beichuan belongs to the type who doesn't know where to go, only Zhou Xin, a boy from Guizhou Plateau, is an image of a motivated boy, which has something to do with the influence of his grandfather who was a teacher.  In the process of wandering all the way, he has also been disappointed and lost, but he has never despaired, and always moves forward with hope.  He received help from Beichuan's brother twice on the road but didn't believe him. He was caught in the "rat's den" and forced to steal, but in the end he designed to escape from the control of the bad guys and call the police, thus eliminating the tormenting teenagers.  In the dark den, he jumped into the water to rescue the model, he helped Beichuan find his brother, and he took care of the little girl Ding Ding who was abandoned by her mother because of drug abuse.  In the novel, he is an image of a motivated, witty, kind but timid teenager. With this positive image, he connects all kinds of growing teenagers.  They encounter all kinds of problems in the process of growing up, because they lack the love of their parents, they can only grope to solve these painful and embarrassing problems by themselves.  Although many problematic teenagers were destroyed because of "staying behind", it is gratifying that there are still positive images like Zhou Xin.  We rarely know the thrilling journey and mentality of teenagers in their growth process. This novel reveals the mysterious and sad side of this land.

Salinger's "The Catcher in the Rye" is the growth story of Western teenagers, Yu Hua's "Screaming in the Drizzle" is the growth story of rural teenagers before the era of migrant workers in China, and "Snow Robe" is the growth story of rural teenagers in the era of migrant workers in China  The story, times and countries are different, but the fear, confusion, and bravery of teenagers in the process of growing up are common. Everyone has to go through this "big examination room" that determines whether life is happy or not.  Among the growth novels with left-behind children and problem children as the protagonists, "Snow Robe" is a rare one. It takes care of the times, pays attention to the soul, and records the common growth problems in this specific country and specific era.

Although it is written about teenagers, Xili's language is very poetic, maybe this has something to do with the fact that the author is a poet. The language poets use in their novels is unmatched by writers who have not been trained in poetry.  The novel adopts the first-person perspective and narrates from the perspective of "I", which brings a sense of confession and intimacy, while the various romantic imaginations of teenagers in harsh environments are like the movie "Looking for" starring Johnny Depp.  The "momentary fantasy" in Neverland adds tension and a layer of fantasy to the novel.  When "I" recalled listening to my father playing the piano, Xili wrote: "When I hear the sound I like, our wooden house will float, and I will float out of the window, into the  On the branches in the distance, even drifting to the pine forest farther away." This feeling is completely poetic, and it is a poetic technique.  After writing "I" played the harmonica, "People's backs moved, as if they were bordered by a bright edge. When they exited, the world opened up, and they were dressed as Barbie's golden sister, perfect like a dummy." This is  A novel that mixes poetry and philosophy.  The poetic language and poetic care add poetic romance and fantasy to the compassion of the novel.

At the end of the novel, "I" and my father went to find my mother, and it ended like this: "Mom won't be cold. Does she like snow? I must like it. Snow is pure and gentle. If there is no embrace of snow, how can the land wake up in spring  Come? If mother is on the way home, she must be tired. If she is a wheat seedling, let the snow robe cover her."
