Chapter 6 Eyes

    ?

Every time I sit in the ophthalmologist's office, facing a long row of instruments and mydriatic drops in the nurse's hand, I start to regret my usual excessive use of my eyes.

Although generally such regrets dissipate relatively quickly after stepping out the door.

    This time something is different.

After the doctor checked my eyes, he didn't give a routine explanation of terminology or doctor's orders, but raised his finger to the window, "Your eyes are like that piece of grass."

I looked in that direction, and under the shade of the camphor tree, the fragrant grass is green and quiet in spring, and the unknown light yellow flowers are dense and tender to the bottom of my heart.  Birds skim lightly, nymphs linger

My heart filled with admiration and exclamation silently: This is a poet who was delayed by medical school

The doctor looked up at me, "The grass is slowly turning into concrete."

I heard a cracking sound in my heart.

The prescription reads: Agkistrodon hemocoagulase, intravenous injection.

Perhaps my face was a little pale, the doctor explained: "The hemocoagulase is isolated and purified from the venom of Agkistrodon lanceolata, and it does not contain neurotoxins and other poisons."

After signing the prescription, he watched me walk away with a relaxed pace, and added behind him, "You can usually remind yourself that if you abuse your eyes, you will be bitten by a Brazilian pit viper. This may be more useful."
