Ji Xu and Wang Mian ran all the way through the Lion's Den, straight into the Bell and Drum Tower and walked to the root of the imperial city.  After a while, I arrived at the first water transport wharf [now the primary school attached to Tsinghua University] in the east of Tonghui River. I went down to the wharf and asked people one by one. The boatmen all said that they had never seen a girl in green clothes.  Then, they went to Pingjinzha Wharf [now Gaobeidian Village].

The two searched all the way east along the Tonghui River. When they arrived at Tongzhou Main Wharf, they did not find any trace of Huilan.  The disheartened two had no choice but to go back along the avenue.

[1] "Late Spring in the Capital - Xiaque" Wang Mian. Poetry

Merry listen to the golden strands,

    Generous who knows Baishige.

The north and the south of the river sigh and worry,

Falling red is like rain hitting fishing capes.

Tongzhou always wakes up too early.  The dust from last night has not yet settled down, and the lanterns of the roadside shop seem to still have a faint yellow light to shine through, but when one looks closely, it is the refraction of the morning sun.

The young Ji Xu was riding on a horse, but his delicate makeup could not conceal the heavy tiredness on his face.  Horse-drawn carriages and rickshaws hurried past one after another, and the people in the carts were slightly affluent people in the city who were still exhausted every day.

The red building on the side of the road is always overcrowded, and the noise rises and falls, but fortunately, the old bustard has practiced the extraordinary ability of not forgetting by ear.  The melodious "Golden Thread" wafts out from the boxes, some are tender and sentimental, and some are lingering and affectionate.  I don't know if this box just opened today, or it hasn't closed since last night.

In fact, where is this small riverside town at the northernmost end of the "Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal" not overcrowded?  Whether it's teahouses, inns, cloth shops, pawnshops all kinds of streets and alleys cover every corner of this small city like spider webs.  Batch after batch of people are loaded and unloaded like cargo, and the whole city is like a busy empty shell.  People are busy, for their own livelihood.

The sky is gradually getting brighter, and the scenery is gradually becoming clearer.

Ji Xu and Wang Mian passed a bustling rainbow-shaped bridge.  The bridge was crowded with people, and there were many pedestrians.  I saw many small stalls on both sides of the bridge, some selling all kinds of groceries, some selling small dried fruits, and fortune tellers!

Unconsciously, Wang Mian's heart lightened, and he asked Ji Xu: "Why don't we make a divination?"

Ji Xu smiled reluctantly at Wang Mian, "Can I do it~"

"Whether it works or not, it doesn't hurt to try it." Wang Mian suggested, "It's better than looking around aimlessly!"

    The two dismounted.

Wang Mian went to look for the fortune-teller, and Ji Xu led the two horses up to the arch, muttering to himself, "The two of us can't find it with four big eyes, how can a blind man help find it  "

It only took a cup of tea before Wang Mian followed.

"What's the situation?" Ji Xu asked, "What does the fortune teller say?"

Wang Mian shook his head blankly and said, "Maybe I can't find it."

"How is it possible?" Ji Xu asked incredulously, "He didn't say, where did Second Miss go?"

Wang Mian said: "I gave the horoscope of my birthday to the fortune teller"

Ji Xu smiled and said, "What's the use of the horoscope you gave you?"

But Wang Mian said: "What I give is the second lady's."

Ji Xu asked: "Do you still know her birthday?"

"Oh, it's like this," Wang Mian explained, "At the beginning, Second Aunt wanted to introduce Second Miss to me, so I knew her birth date."

Ji Xu nodded, "Oh, if you know the horoscope of your birthday, the fortune teller may be able to calculate it accurately." He asked again, "The fortune teller can tell you, where did the second lady go? How did she lose it?"

"Hi!" Wang Mian said, "He was kidnapped."

    "who?"

    "A rich man."

"What?" Ji Xu was taken aback, "Could it be that what happened back thenrepeated"

"It seems to be different," Wang Mian said, "The fortune teller said that the second lady is destined for wealth, and the princess is destined"

"That blind man, you're talking nonsense!" Ji Xu said, "Second Miss is so beautiful, if one day she is chosen by the emperor as a noble concubine, and she is said to have the life of a concubine, it will still make people believe that she has the life of a princess, this is not nonsense.  What!"

Just as I was talking, a person caught up behind me, and I heard that person shouting loudly: "Brother, why did you come to Tongzhou?"

Wang Mian looked back and saw that it was Da Puhua, so he smiled and said, "Jian Shan, where have you been?"

"Oh, I went to the government office of Tongzhou to do some business." Da Puhua looked at the handsome young man who was walking with Wang Mian, and asked, "Who is this?"

Wang Mian hurriedly introduced the two of them to each other, and?3) The ultimate exam

    ? Fifth Exam: General Examination

The general examination is the ultimate exam for literati to determine their fate. Juren and Guozijian students from all provinces can take the exam.  The general examination is different from the final palace examination. The palace examination only determines the ranking, and there is no problem of being dismissed.  The general examination is usually in the second year of the rural examination, that is, the years of Chou, Chen, Wei, and Xu.  The examination is divided into three sessions, each for three days, held on the ninth, 12th, and 15th day of February respectively, so it is also called "Chunwei" or "Liwei".

The examination is sponsored by the Ministry of Rites and held in the Gongyuan in the capital.  The general examination is an advanced examination, and the number of examiners is double that of the rural examination.  Examiners, co-examiners, and promotion officials are all held by senior officials. The emperor appoints the chief and vice presidents, also known as the seat master or seat teacher.

The various rules of the examination room are basically the same as those of the rural examination.  Those who participate in the examination are Juren from all over the country. Generally, 300 people are admitted as Gongshi, commonly known as Gongshi, also known as Mingjing, and the first one is called Huiyuan.

Newly admitted tribute scholars in the Qing Dynasty had to take a re-examination before the palace examination.  The results of the re-examination are divided into first, second, and third grades according to their grades. This grade has an important relationship with the future awarding of official positions.

Those who have obtained the qualification of tribute can take the highest-level examination on April 15 of the same year, which is the "palace examination" administered by the emperor himself.

The sixth exam: the palace exam

The palace examination is the emperor's personal questioning of the tributes admitted in the palace examination in order to determine the first rank.  Nominally, it is presided over by the emperor himself. In addition, ministers who read the papers and papers are appointed to assist the emperor in reviewing the test papers.  In the Ming and Qing dynasties, there was only one question in the palace examination.

It is called "Jiabang" in the palace examination, and the list is divided into three tops: the first one is awarded "Jinshi and rank", only the top three are the number one scholar, the second place, and Tanhua, collectively called Sanding Jia; the second one is awarded "Jinshi"  Several people from "Birthplace" are given the title of "Chuan Lu" first; several of the top three are given the title of "Born with Jinshi", and the first is also called "Chuan Lu".  Those in the first, second and third grades are generally called Jinshi.

When the announcement is made, a roll-call ceremony will be held in front of the hall, called Chuanlu.  Anyone who passed the promotion in the second list and became an official through the Jinshi in the first list is called "two list origin".  Those who have Jie Yuan, Hui Yuan, and Zhuang Yuan in one person are called "Lian Zhong San Yuan".

After the palace examination, the emperor gave all Jinshi banquets.  As soon as the banquet is over, the servants and servants next to them immediately come up to grab the food on the table, and the bowls are flying around for a while, which is called grabbing the banquet.  By the late Qing Dynasty, the banquet was already very crude, and it was only a scene in a hurry.  In addition, the imperial court also gave silver taels, colorful flowers, etc., and erected a stone tablet in the Guozijian, engraved with the name of the new Jinshi and other complicated etiquette.

According to the regulations of the Qing Dynasty, there will be another exam after the palace exam, called the court exam.  Finally, according to the results of the re-examination, the imperial examination, and the imperial examination of the tributes, the admission grades are obtained, and then the official positions conferred are determined according to the admission grades.  Since the number one scholar, the second place in the list, and Tanhua in the palace examination can be awarded to the Hanlin Academy for compilation and editing immediately after passing the examination, they no longer participate in the imperial examination.  The first place in the imperial examination is called Chaoyuan.  Chuanlu, who was the first in the imperial examination, and Chaoyuan, who was the first in the imperial examination, also served in the Hanlin Academy as usual.  The rest of Jinshi, with good grades, can be admitted to the Imperial Academy as Shujishi, and those with lower grades are awarded the head of the six departments, cabinet secretary, censor, magistrate, county magistrate and other officials.

    (4) Before becoming an official

The cold window book and sword have been suffering for ten years, and I hope that the toad palace will break the osmanthus branches.  The scholar finally passed all the examinations smoothly, and also won the title of "Jinshi".  Learn civil and martial arts, goods and the emperor's family.  So what's the next step to become an official?

    First, enter the Hanlin Academy.

The number one scholar entered the Hanlin Academy, and the official position was awarded from the sixth grade, one level higher than the county magistrate.  The second place and Tanhua also entered the Hanlin Academy, and were awarded the official title of Zheng Qipin editor.  Although the grades are not high, the number one scholar, the second place in the list, and Tanhua have the qualifications to be selected as certain officials and enter the high-level central government, so the way out is relatively good.

    Second, Shujishi.

? Other Jinshi will conduct another imperial examination, mainly to select Shujishi.  During the imperial examinations, outstanding Jinshi were selected as Shujishi, and they entered the Shuchang Hall to study. When the three-year period expired, they took the exam and assigned work, and the hall was called to close.

    Third, conferring officials.

?The grades of Jinshi who were not admitted as Shujishi were mainly sixth and seventh rank.

Most of the officials conferred are in two forms: one is the head of the ministry, the lowest official among the divisional officials, and is the sixth rank; the other is the county magistrate, who is the seventh rank.  There are the most vacancies for principals and county magistrates, and they are all in the learning stage. Jinshi grants magistrates to some vacant counties, and after three years, they will be transferred to counties with more important provincial vacancies.  This is the official situation of most Jinshi people, and there are also other official positions.  (Remember the site URL: www.hlnovel.com
