Wang Shifu, named Dexin, was born in Dadu (now Beijing), and his ancestral home was Dingxing (now Dingxing County), Baoding City, Hebei Province. A famous zaju writer in the Yuan Dynasty, the author of the zaju "The Story of the West Chamber", his life and deeds are unknown. One of the four masters of Zaju in the Yuan Dynasty, Wang Shifu is as famous as Guan Hanqing, Bai Pu, and Ma Zhiyuan.
